CZ-3D detecting depth

I'm having problems with my CZ-3D. It seems to have lost the ability to detect coins at any depth. When I test it by laying coins on the ground surface, it emits the "clanging" sound for any type of coin (very few high tones). When I bury coins at about 2 inches, I get no signal. I am concerned that maybe the electronics were damaged when I got caught in a downpour one afternoon. Some water may have entered the slotted port on top of the unit. I have tried all sensitivity settings, both enhance and salt, but with very little change. What options do I have if any other than sending it to Fisher for repair?

Try a fresh set of batteries, no matter what the meter seems to say. Reset your controls to factory defaults.
Make sure your sensitivity isn't too high, try 4 or 5. As weird as this sounds, force the detector into an overload.
Hold the coil four or five inches from a large metal object, sign post, hand rail, etc. After it gives the overload signal once or twice,
try it again.
Make sure the ground where you are testing isn't causing your problem. Any large metal object within two or three feet of the coil
could cause you problems. Somebody on the forum designed a nifty cardboard step system to a coin at various depths to do
a sort of air test with the CZ3.
If none of this seems to do any good one other thing to try is to remove the batteries while the detector is running. Turn it
off and let it set for 10 or 15 minutes before putting the batteries back and trying it again. Also check your coil connections.
I hope you can get it going. If not you have peace of mind of the fisher warranty and the knowledge that she will probably come
back better than ever if you do have to send it to service.

I would try a different coil from a friend club member etc. CZ coils usually don't go bad but perhaps it has a bad solder connection where the coil connects to the box..
If not time for fisher repair...if you suspect rain damage put it in a closet for a week and some even use a hair dryer on low but try the closet test first as usually take a week to really dry out even if a drop has entered the unit...I once had a CZ6A with a crimped rubber have water damage and in the the trip to Fisher it dried out but was cleaned and tuned anyway compliments of Fisher...
