Have nice 1021 cz3d in the original box on the way from a trusted dealer with the 8" and 10.5" coils. Heading to Myrtle Beach for two weeks in mid September. Looking for tips on settings for running it on the wet sand. Not going in the water. Also, does the ground balance procedure in the manual work the same for the wet sand. I'm putting the control box in a freezer bag then in a cordura chest pouch to protect it from the salt air. BTW, this trip will be for my wife and I's 26th anniversary. Maybe I'll find her a ring

CZ-3D Wet Sand Settings ?

I've got CZ6A and CZ20, not exactly the same but they should set up very much like the CZ3D.
Over the wet sand I search in autotune and then flip to discriminate mode to get an idea on target ID. I run the volume in the boost range to take advantage of the volume boost on deep targets. To start, set sensitivity to where you can hear a slight hum; ground balance it. Probably need salt mode over the wet sand, but if it will ground balance in enhanced mode, use enhanced. With the volume up, both my CZ6A and CZ20 need the sensitivity at about 9 to hear the threshold hum when in autotune. I've read that the CZ3d might not use that high of a sensitivity setting to get the threshold hum; set it where ever it takes to get that little bit of hum. Go hunting.
When you get a rise in the threshold, center the target and flip to discrimination 0 to ID. I find I can not hunt in discrimination 0 with the sensitivity that high since I get false signals, but in autotune, it works well. When in autotune and I have a target under the coil, flipping to discrimination 0 does not need the sensitivity turned down if I'm going to go back to searching in autotune.

First leave the 10.5 at home as it won't work as well in your conditions...Autotune sounds great if not many targets, however the saltwater beaches I hunted were loaded with junk and would be brain dead switching back and forth...try to use the regular(enhanced) mode if you can and put up with some of the noise, however probably going to have to use the salt mode...in either case ground balance where you hunt and not in the dry....if perhaps you wish to hunt dry sand use the enhanced mode if possible.
Every beach is different and changes from day to day so you will have to experiment what works best...Always liked to work the high tide out and actually got tide tables for area I worked....good luck and eat your Wheaties walking in the sand is tough on the legs...

Thanks for the tips guy's. Great info. I'm really looking forward to trying my luck in the wet sand. My last trip with my M6 I was confined to the dry sand. I was amazed at how clean the beach was where we stayed at in North Myrtle Beach. I would go aprox. five minutes between signals. I'll probably give the 10.5" a go in the dry sand for coverage and use the 8" in the wet sand when the tide is out. Once the crops are off our fields this fall I'll be hitting my old one room school site and homesteads with the CZ.

It could be interesting detecting with replenishment going on. I'd take both coils and start with the 8 inch. I used the 12 inch sunray on the CZ6a on the wet sand when I was there from July 28th through August 4th. The CZ 20 has the 8 inch so when I was in the water, that is what I used. The wet sand is normally packed enough to make walking easy. With replenished areas, it may be so soft that walking may take some effort no matter where you are (wet or dry).
Beach replenishment had not reached Myrtle Beach and north when I was there; they were still pumping sand in Surfside. I did not hit the entire area by any means, but around 10th to 14th Street South Ocean Boulevard there were enough targets and enough iron in the sand to make me move to the 8 inch coil. In the Arcadian shores area, Windy Hill area and Cherry Grove areas (to the north of Myrtle Beach proper) there was no problem with the large coil; not as much iron content and not as many targets.

Thanks tvr for the info on replenishment. I had never heard of it. Good to know. And I had forgotten about difficulty walking in soft sand. I'm a pretty fit 52yr old, workout and do yoga. But thinking about my last trip I do remember my calves getting sore after a couple hours lol.

Please guys...enough of the "1021" fetish already!! My new CZ3D tested on par with the 1021 series my friend owns...there may have been a diff at one time but not on the newer more recent production units. Fisher management is not stupid....they obviously got their act together. Now go out and get your new CZ3D before they are discontinued.....won't be long now...most dealers don't even list them.
