CZ-5 or CZ-70 Pro?

Ok, here's the dealie-o. I caught the treasure hunting bug something fierce and began collecting detectors like a dog does fleas. Started out with a Minelab Quattro but eventually sold it. The flute music became too much to deal with (user inexperience, I'm sure). Next, I bought a Fisher CZ-5 because I read how wonderful they are. Before I even took the time to learn it, I decided that I also needed a water detector, so I bought a Tesoro Tiger Shark (VLF) and Tesoro Sand Shark (PI), just to have both fresh and salt water covered. Then I bought a Garrett GTI 1500, followed by a Tesoro Silver uMax. The last detector I bought was a Fisher CZ-70 Pro.

I've since decided to "thin the herd", so to speak. I'd like to keep the water detectors, but will be selling the GTI 1500 and Silver uMax and replacing them with 2 Ace 250's for family members that have never been detecting before. For myself, this leaves selling either the CZ-5 or CZ-70 Pro. Having never fully learned either one, I have no preference on which to sell. Also, I have no preference regarding analog or digital, since I never learned the pro's and con's of each. Sooo, I figured I'd come to the experts and get their opinions.

If you owned both a CZ-5 and CZ-70 Pro and had to get rid of one, which would you part with? Why would you keep the one over the other?

Here's the thing. The CZ70 is more weather resistant than the CZ5, but the 5 has the knob where you can adjust the sensitivity in minute increments while the 70 has, I believe, settings of 2,4,6,8 and cannot be tweaked. The 70 has notching where the 5 does not.
The 70 also has 4 tones vs 3 on the CZ5 so you have more tone ID to utilize.

I am partial to the 6a since it does not have a speaker and I can hunt in the rain, sand, suds and not worry too much. I mostly use them beach hunting and dig everything except shallow iron ( I do dig some of the deep iron low tones due to deep gold sometimes hitting as low) so I don't really need a 4th tone. I use my newer 3D on land which does have the 4th tone.

Never used a 70 but lots of hunters love em.

If I had to make a choice between the 70 or 5, I would go with the 70 due to it being more weather resistant, 4 tones and you can notch out targets if you wanted to. I think it also has a back light too.

It may come down to what feels better in your hand, since I think the configurations are set up differently and one may just feel better when hunting. If you have an original CZ5, it's with the S rod config where the 70 use the pistol grip. I ended up making a straight shaft set up for my 6a's and that to me is the best for balance and feel.

Thanks for the info, JC. It's such a hard decision because I hate to part with either one. It DOES seem that the CZ-5 shows up for sale more often on various websites than does the CZ-70. So I guess if I eventually regret having parted with the 5 it would be easier to correct the regret and just pick up another, whereas the 70 seems to be much harder to find.

I've read nothing but good things about the 6a (as I have with almost all the CZ models). Lordy, you're gonna make me want to go out and get one of those next.

Therover pretty much covered it...and would depend on what hunting you do as the CZ70 has an excellent notch system and is weather resistant while the CZ5 has just a linear disc. and no weather resistant qualities. CZ5is a plus as you can adjust in one increment 1-2-3-4 etc. while CZ70 has increments of two...2-4-6 etc..
Some like the pistol grip of the CZ70 and the 4th tone while others like the s style rod of the CZ5 and the 3 tone system. Last but not least I would do a depth test on both to see which one is deepest as all CZ's vary a tad and certainly is to be considered..Also which is in the best shape cosmetically and the newest comes into play.
A lot to consider my friend so your call a faster CZ5 that shows depth to 8 inches or a slower digital CZ70 that shows depth to 10 inches,,
Personally I have a super tuned CZ5 that will hold its own with any CZ, rel depth like the S rod only use for silver so notch is not a plus for me and don't hunt in the rain(retired) always tomorrow or hunt saltwater beaches where the weather resistant CZ70 would be a plus and like the ability of turn a knob to go from disc. to autotune so the CZ5 is my choice. Of course you wants and needs may differ but to me any CZ is a good unit and good luck in your choice...

Thanks for the advice, Dan. It's wonderful hearing from you. Your opinion regarding CZ's is not taken lightly here.

BTW, You should be VERY familiar with the CZ-70 Pro that I'm referring to. I bought it from you late last summer, I think it was. Hope things are going well up in your neck of the woods and that you made it through the procedure with flying colors. Take care, my friend.

Well we know one thing the CZ70 pro was top notch as I thought I recognized that name. Thanks for your concern and indeed all is well as all healing finel.
If the CZ5 is as good going to be a tough decision but again all depends on your personal preferences and specific hunting needs. Again wish you luck in your decision
