CZ-5 vs. ID Excel (LONG)

Cherry Picker

New member
Hello fellow Treasure Hunters, this is my first time to post on this forum. I have just been detecting a little over a year with the CZ-5 as my main squeeze. I think I have become profeciant with the CZ but have just acquired an ID Excel to try as a back up. I would like a little input on the Excel, keeping in mind that I am accustom to the 5. I like the lighter weight for sure as I'm 57 yrs old and arthritis is setting in. I noticed the excel is not as loud as the CZ because the CZ boost the weak signals. I hunt nail infested ghost town sites as well as old churches and the like. I don't dig nails anymore with the CZ, so that is not a problem. I would imagine the excel would be quiter in nails. i can run the CZ at full sensitivity when I want to, here in Texas. I was just wondering what the advantages might be with the Excel over the CZ, in certain situations. Can i expect close to the same depth with the Excel? Any info you can give me would be appreciated. I look forward to interacting with you guys on this Forum. I love Fisher detectors. I'm including a Picture of some of my first year finds mostly with the CZ. I got the Seated Half in a Nail bed with a 1236X-2 which I traded off for some dumb reason. But have another one due in tommorrow. It's a great little detector also.

:welcome: Great finds...thanx for posting the picture. You now have 2 very different Fisher's that should do well for you. I'd have to lean on the CZ being a little deeper. BUT....& to me this is big.....the Excel really makes up for it in trash. The ID Excel is probably one of the best machines in trash ever. But being a CZ guy your really going to have to have the patience to learn what it's telling you. You see, the numbers flash on the screen in "real time".....meaning what you see is what you get, with no digital delays at all. The CZ's have a disc delay, & though very deep can mask some goodies. Here's where your Excel will come in :)
I'm not saying the Excel is shallow or anything. It "Can hunt with the big boyz" :D ,depending upon the sensitivity setting. In your area maybe you can crank it up to 9 or so. I can get it up to sensitivity 8 here at times. But I would reccomend getting usted to it first before running sens. too high. Try maybe 5 or 6 at first to get the hang of it. It may be chattery on 8 or 9 & you'll see alotta numbers flashing. I'd try the disc on 00 to begin. That way iron is negative numbers & will not signal (unless big). Hope that helped, & maybe someone else can jump in & add more....
