If the batteries are in the housing and not the armrest, it might be feasible.
(Why not email Dave Johnson--- personal message him here @ Finds (Dave J.) --to be sure?)
 
To change from the S configuration to the pistol grip configuration would take a lot of modding and perhaps a professional could but tough for a layman I would think....Certainly not an easy task...

I would leave it as they didn't make many CZ7a's.
They are a one year only rare Detector.
Collectors item for sure.
