After my question on audio boost, I had to get out tonight and try to hunt with my audio cranked up to 10. At first, I really noticed a difference, but I eventually got used to the sound and was fine. It was after dark when a high tone booming signal stopped me. I recovered a 1953 nickel and flipped the plug over but checked the hole one last time. This time, a great but not super loud signal surprised me. I rechecked the plug and found nothing. I had to dig another three or four inches before I popped the target out of the hole. A quick look in the street light glow and I knew I had a nice Barber. When I got home I rinsed it off in the sink and discovered the O mint mark. This is the same place I found the Civil War medal and the Indiana uniform button. I will be hanging out in this grove for a while.

That is one fantastic find :clapping: and in great shape... Curious about the ID you received, was it nickel or dime?
My Father-in-Law found one of those about 20 years ago and that puppy was very thin... Congrats...

Hi Robert,
My signal was kinda mid and high. I was teasing the coil slow and all different angles trying to get a specific lock. I thought I was probably digging something junk or a coin next to trash. I was surprised to find the nickel seemingly alone. I will confess I had almost closed the plug before rescanning the hole. That pass was pure high tone, screaming silver. The cool coin was in the same hole but at least three or four inches deeper.
The dates are so wide that I am sure those coins were never together, just happened to get dropped in the same spot many years apart.

Thanks for the information Don... Going to an old school track site today and I'll have the volume glued to MAX... About 100 yards from the track, back in the 1890's, there was an old one room school house that might hold some good stuff... If only they hadn't built a brick school on the same site in the 30's or 40's... This school is gone now, but there is tons of gravel to deal with... Oh well, I'm going to dig something :detecting: ...
