CZ21 for the Dirt?

Is anyone using the CZ21 for digging in the dirt? I am really wanting one for the beach and it sure would make the investment easier if it worked well for other purposes too. I asked this question on another forum and got some replies from beach hunters but the relic hunters did not respond. I am hoping someone on here is using one and has some first hand info.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated.
 
I know of some who do but its heavy and locked in salt mode. Why not a CZ with normal/enhanced options for better performance in most non-salt/mineral environments?
Unless you are diving or really into deeper surf ocean hunting, I don't see it as a good choice, but only you know what your intended hunting will be. What other units do you have to go with it? If it is to provide an option in the few places it is the better choice it can make sense. If it is your only option, then it is a poor one. IMHO :beers:

I don't know that I will ever go deep with it but I do want a fully waterproof unit that is good in the salt. I currently have an ATPro that works great in the dry and dirt but is pretty weak in the wet sand and salt water. It will still be my primary machine for dirt but it would be nice if the CZ21 would work well in the dirt too. That way I could only carry one detector if I wanted to or have a backup in the event the ATP was out of order.

As for the weight, I am planning to get the belt mount for the controls.

What other model would you suggest?
 
I had a CZ-20 I mostly land hunted with. I could run the sens. up to 6 and it was smooth and deep! I dug a 10'' wheatie with it one time. It was one of the hotest CZ's I ever owned. Some think because it is locked in salt mode that it isn't deep,But not the one I had boy I should have kept. it for a on off drizzle rain machine. If I get the extra cash I will get another one for sure!
 
Don't worry about it being locked in salt mode for depth or coin hunting. I have used my CZ's (all different models) for over 20 years and have never experienced a depth loss on silver or copper coins in salt mode on both land and in salt water conditions. However, I have original CZ6a's and a CZ20, so I cannot validate if the newer CZ's experience any depth loss (on coins) while in salt mode.

The salt mode makes it more stable in salt water and wet, salt sand but it is also less sensitive to smaller, lower conductive targets like thin gold rings. On the plus side, for land hunting, it will not be as sensitive to small foil.

One suggestion if you do want to use it as a land hunter is get the 8 inch coil. One of the draw backs of any hard wired unit is you obviously can't change coils.

Not sure if water proof is imperative, or you really just want a rugged, water resistant unit that can stand the elements. If so, a used CZ70 Pro or one of the other splash proof, water resistant CZ's are an excellent value. You then have the added options of it not being locked in salt mode as well as being able to change out coils. The small 5 inch coil on a CZ is deadly at finding deep silver among trash...you just have to go slow and creep along, listening for that repeatable high tone 'tink'

I do want a waterproof machine in the event I drop it in the water or take a wave unexpectedly. I am leaning toward the 8" coil. If I want to change coils, I will still have ATP for a backup. I have the 5x8 and 8.5x11 for it.

Now all I have to do is find the best price.:shrug:
 
As you know your ATP is a fine detector and waterproof to 10 feet, but no single frequency machine cuts it in wet salt sand. I have park hunted with a CZ20 and it seemed to work okay, but I bought a CZ70Pro to beach hunt out to knee deep. I prefer to stay out of Salt mode until I cannot ground balance with any stability. Using a CZ21 as you described will work, and if you must have full waterproofing it is a good choice.
 
A great combo for your situation. A cz 21 and a AT pro....bases covered for you. Good luck!
 
One more question. What is the average battery life of alkaline batteries? What rechargeable batteries work well and what is their life?
 
Poor choice for land basically as its heavy-locked in salt mode-no meter-hand wired so limited to one coil....
 
The CZ-20/21 use's four 9 volts and get about 50 hours and a regular CZ use's two 9 volts and gets about 20 hours of life.
