Probably today. He has opted not to pursue further treatment due to the fact that they won't cure the leukemia. The leukemia is in his bone marrow and at his age bone marrow transplant isn't an option. They put him on a pain pump yesterday. He is ready both spiritually and emotionally and is secure in his salvation. We will spend as much time as possible with him as he will only have a week or so. Unfortunately, next Tuesday is Brian's surgery in Nashville putting us 3 hours away.
Dad was a faithful husband and you couldn't ask for a better father. He lived his faith and therefore, through his actions, taught us respect for our Lord and for our families. He taught us right from wrong and didn't spare the rod when it was needed. He was a great provider but never spoiled us, even though he could have.
God blessed us with the best dad and mom you could ask for.
He will be missed greatly by all of us and especially by Brian. He loves his nanny and poppy. With his upcoming surgery and his sick poppy, Brian has been very depressed. Mom and dad have always been with us at Vanderbilt for Brian's surgeries and this will be the first major surgery without them. We will miss their company.
Our family would like to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers. Please keep mom in your prayers, she is starting to grow very weary. Mom and dad have known each other since kindergarten so she will be very, very lonely...though not alone.
Thank you again,
Doug
