Hit 2 tot lots tonight, both full of kids. The first lot the kids were great wanted to touch my badge ,help dig anything to help . the next lot lots of kids most were ok , now I know the play ground was built for them so I just stay away and hunt the empty places. One kid( that was growing out of my side )first coin I hit dropped down and started looking Took my quarter stuck it in his pocket , went to show his Dad . The Dad reached in his pocket and looked at his change (I guess he was making sure wasnt his) Im thinking ok .Hes 9 or 10 not 4or5 yrs old.next coin same thing ,told me how lucky he was ( lucky I didnt pull his head off) I figure you get paid you need to work! So I disc out everything but pull tabs and foil . Every one I could find he put in his pocket,(Told him if he dropped them he would have to pick them up next time ) When I left he had two pockets full of tabs and trash and was looking for a trash can.Not sure but I won that battle of wits . ( iwould have given it to him if he just ask)

i try to deter kids hanging around me when detecting as a rule there's nothing worse than having someone looking over your shoulder when ya finally find a nice gold ring ( ya may not have it for to long after that ) the first thing little Johnny/Jill does is tell mom or dad that man found a ring then the fun begins.

He just took your money?!?

I think you won the battle of wits from the very beginning. In todays day and age there are too many creeps out there for little kids to be running up and messing with people.

What kind of a badge?

Happens to me too. I lay down some gound rules if kids are tagging along. I get all the loot only because I keep records. They can have toy cars etc. They can dig or pinpoint as long as a parent says its ok. They have to stand out of my swing path. No cussing or mean-mouthing around me. I usually have plenty of cold drinks and candy bars in my cooler for a reward if parents say ok. Having the right kids around is a joy. Some really test me. After about 13 or 14 forget it. They usually aren't all that interested anyway.

Funny story. Too bad one of those pop tops wasn't a ring. The kid would have probably liked to get some gold! What are you swinging?

Were you in uniform?

Garrett sells a 250 with a CSI faceplate for law enforcement. I helped a deputy in the county north of here to learn his a few weeks ago and offered to help the rest of his department but they never did call me. Maybe they still will.

If I thought I could get by with it I would put up crime scene tape around the play ground till I'm finished
