Day 1 with New Safari

Roy F.

New member
I've been pounding parks & schools in my area for the last year with a Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300 (have to say real descent 1st machine) and have aquired good results picking up clad like a monster to roughly 5"deep. As time went on I felt the need for a more serious detector and months of reasearch led me to the Minelab Safari. Yes I did seriously concider the Explorer SE Pro and the E-trac but for what I do the Safari will work nicely.

So today I am ready to maiden the Safari after receiving it on thursday. Yep spent 2 days going over the instruction manual AND Andy's book for the Quattro/Safari. I would like to say that Andy's book is a VERY valuable part of this detector, he explains the theory behind all the available adjustment for these detectors. My main goal was to have a detector that goes deep to up my silver count and handle wet salt sand, "Nuff said = Safari FBS Performance".

Patients is the key when learning to speak Minelab, "What a symphony of sound!" Against all that has been advised I took the Safari out to a trash infested school yard (Older school circa 40's). Instant frustration until I remember to slow down the pace, it got better then it hit! Silver! I knew it was there, I'm on my way! Keepers = (1) 1942 Merc, (1) 1946 Wheatie, (2) coppers: 1961 &1969, (1) 2000 clad dime, (3) zincs that didn't make the cut or the pics.

HH everyone,

Roy

Good job. Great find. Better then what I did the first time out with my Quattro. Where you hunting in Conductive tones or Ferrous tones?

John

Excellent job Roy! Love finding those Mercs.
Thanks for the pix and welcome to the Safari forum!

Hello John,
I was hunting in the factory loaded Coin/Jewelry mode which I believe is conductive. the only thing I tweaked was going to manual sensitivity and ended up at 16, very small amount of chatter but was do-able. The ground I was in was bone dry and really crumbly. I'm getting ready to go out again and try cross saving from Coin/Jewelry to relic. I really like this machine and owe a great deal of thanks to you and all the previous posters in this forum. Going through all the past pages on the Safari forum answered all my questions making my decision to get the Safari a good one.

Hey Bunker,
Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated!

Now time to go swing da coil,

HH

Hey Roy try searching in ferrous tones, that seemed to help me locate coins that was on top of iron.

Great first Safari hunt. Now you can go back to all the places you've hunted with the D3300 and hunt again for the deep goodies. That's what I did, when I upgraded from a Land Star to the Safari.

Funny you mentioned that! Lol!!! I'm on it!

Many thanks,
Roy

Silver on your first day- pretty sweet. Congrats! Slowing down IS key in trash- I learned that from the folks on this forum.
