DD Joey Coil for the SE ?

New member
Hi
I just got my SE a few days ago and was thinking of adding this coil. Has anyone used one if so do you like it ?

Thanks in advance

The first of course is the Stock 10.5" Coil that comes with the Explorer. I use the Joey Coil for getting between Trash items when I know that the Stock Coil will not perform like it should and leave good targets behind due to masking. I have found a Seated Dime at 10" before with this Coil so it will get the Deeper Targets as well as the Stock Coil can but it will lose about 2" of Depth or so because it is a smaller Coil. It is really lite also and swings with ease. The only thing that Coilteck should have done was make it Waterproof. You can do this by adding some Silicon around the Coil Cable that goes into the Coil Housing and then it should be Leak Proof. This is a great Coil and I wouldn't use a different Coil for Trash Sites unless of course it is Solid Trash or Iron, then the 5" Coil would be preferred over this. Good Choice in Coil for a smaller Coil I think and Good Luck and HH to you if and when you purchase this Coil.

Hi James
Much thanks for the quick and detailed response, I just placed my order. I figured it would be comparable to the 6x9 I use on my DFX. And a big thanks for the tip on the silicone, I just took it for granted that it was waterproof.

Thanks again !!!!!

Hello,
It may be too late but you do know Coilteck just introduced two new coils a month or two ago? One is the 8.5 x 11.5 called the Platypus DD Pro and is on sale at most places for around $200 "AND IS WATERPROOF!".

They also came out with a new WOT 15 inch for $209 which is getting rave reviews. You may wish to reconsider your order.

I personally have had very good success with Excelerator's 4.5 x 7. It's a really solid little coil and is perfect for what it is intended to do; work tight places or trashy areas.

I really need the small coil as I like to hunt the out of the way spots that have grown over and the trashy fields. How do you guys feel they do for pinpointing ?

I have the joey and it is all I use,I went to a park that I have hunted several times with different coils and have had better luck with the joey,Found 6 barber dimes and 9 IH pennys all from 6" to 12"they all wasnt great tones but know it was maybe a good target.Hope this helps, for pinpont I just x the target with the small coil and it works good.

The Target will be directly under the "Guy with the Pick Decal" on top of the Coil towards the front. Wish you Good Luck and HH with that new Coil:detecting:!

I can swing my little Joey coil all day and is excellent in heavy trash. I can pin point with ease. Like someone else said, it's not water proof but can be with silicone. Not to burst any bubbles, but it's my experience it is good for about 4-5 inches in depth under good soil conditions at best. Target seperation is great but, the old coins where I hunt are usually around 7-8 inches deep, and in my experience, the little Joey just doesn't quite make it. I use my standard coil and try to "hear" through the trash and jiggle it to pin point the deeper target. That's what's nice about this forum. You have a wealth of information to try and choose from different experiences! Good Luck!!!

Thanks
Hopefully I can pinpont better with the Joey coil than I can with the stock coil. I thought I had the stock coil figured out but now I'm totally lost when pinpointing :surrender:
