Walked across the road and found that they are just starting to come out. Got about a pound of prime mushrooms.
When I came home, I could smell it even before I got in the driveway [and my driveway is 600 feet long]. My little Jack russell, bless her, took on[again] a skunk. She hates them with a passion. I am thankful for that too since I have a clutch of banty eggs about to hatch,
Anyway, out with the hydrogen peroxide, soap and water. At least, I can be in the same house with her now <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

I usually go up to Boyne City area and get plenty. I have some dried from two years ago.
The last time Mary and I went up there we went out one day and found over 20 lbs in one outing. Best day I ever had and I could have picked more.
Mary and I got seperated and it was getting late. I started hunting for her and as I did I walked through all kinds of them but could not stop to pick them. What a day
 
a skunk!!! Yuck! I have never picked wild mushrooms. I would be afraid I'd get the wrong kind!
 
I know what morels look like, also chanterelles and lobsters. I will not pick any others since I do not know 100% what they are like.

We have been finding them here for the last 3 weeks or so.The season should last for another couple of weeks.I love looking for them and especially eating them!
 
Figure we should get 30-40 pounds over the next couple of weeks.

Aren't they the little cone-shaped mushrooms that resemble brain matter?
Next, tell us how you prepare them for consumption.
I have yet to see my first one of this year. Maybe later though. <><

they are good fried in butter. Scrambled with eggs. Go good in gravy.
You can dry them and save them in a sealed container, like a glass jar for years. I still have some from two years ago. Soak them in water for five minutes or so and then you can use them like fresh.
To me it is just as much fun hunting them as eating them. Much like hunting wild asparagus.
 
We have them in butter, on steaks, raw.. They are just soooooo good..
