Deep ON Fast ON?

Hey guys I know this topic has been beaten to death, but I want to make sure I got this right. Also I have read Andy's book on the topic. I know that deep on and fast on are not run together as a norm. And the function of deep on has nothing to do with detectors depth it can read, but does help with deep signals? Fast on makes processor respond quicker between targets is what I gather but the down side is will lock onto shallow target in close proximity of say deep coin causing one to miss that target. I guess what I need to know is what to run these settings. I detect mostly older homes with moderate trash. Several yards I tried machine was in auto +3 auto was running at sixteen in my soil here. Could not dig targets due to yards being hard as concrete. In your guys opinion how would you guys run these settings given this info. I also have slightly modified stock coin program I will be using, conductive tones and will attempt manual sensitivity down the road. I also like to use moderate discrimination

Try wide open screen, TTF, fast on, deep off,high trash, difficult, and noise cancel between 2-4 in manual sens around 18-22. Also try normal and then smooth response. I bet you will be surprised at what you're missing from running disc. You will hear the iron and trash continuously then when you get a repeatable high blip, dig! I've found coins in same hole with 4-5 pieces of trash that I've been over many times with other machines. Most were less than 4 inches deep.

Thanks! That makes a lot of sense. But how do I control what channel the machine is in after a noise cancel? Noise cancel between 2 an 4?

U can manually pick a channel, I prefer channel 6, it is prob just in my head but I have found more deep coins in channel 6 than any other channels. I do NOT like deep ON, i feel it really skews the readings, makes them way more jumpy, been using the etrac for 4 yrs now and my choice is deep OFF and fast ON, gives the most consistent readings on deeper targets in the testing I have done.

Interesting article, that is something I have never read before. I have always chose channel 6 maybe next time I use manual I will try 2-4 to see if I notice any difference

When you pick a channel manually a noise cancel is not preformed afterwards correct?

Yes, if you choose a channel manually, you dont want to do a noise cancel.
Back to your origianal thread. You stated you hunted older homes with all the old and modern trash. I hunt many lots and old homes inside the city just like this. What has worked for me, (thank you Goes4ever and JohnnyAnglo) Ferrous tones. The ETrac can have much faster response,using less filters and little to no disc. Lots of iron in these spots and I like to hear that response,no threshold null,less masking.
Not sayiing to use this all the time, or its for everyone,just my take on it. There are places I use Conductive Multi tones with some disc, fast on but, not in these places.
I am flexible on my sensitivity settings also. I read what it is running in Auto before I make a decision to go manual. I have found coins in both.
Its all left up to you. But first(like you are doing now, which is good) you gotta know your machine and how you can run it for your hunts.

It does not hurt to push auto noise cancel just to get your machines opinion on where it thinks you should be hunting at.Been telling people for years how important noise cancel was for getting depth so has Andy in his books.Running smooth is not the same as running deep.
