Sometimes they come out all flat and round and shiny like this poor thing.
I found this one two weeks ago around seven inches deep under a one inch diameter root I was at a very old park that I

Hey Todd,
Sounds like you are making progress. Seven inches for a dime in Wisconsin soil is pretty good. If the ground is real wet and there is not much ground cover you might sneak out another inch or two, or if you get a WOT might get a little deeper. You will eventually get a quarter or LC deeper than that.
Congrats
Chris

Thanks chris, but that coin came all the way from the flat lands of illinois.

do you know if the baking soda harms silver coins in any way!? It does one hell of a job cleaning it up!
Wess

Thanks wess, and thats a real good question. My guess is that since it feels similar to an abrasive cleaning, it probably does in some microscopic way harm the value. My coin book estimates the value before cleaning was between 55 and 88 dollars.
Though not extreemly valuable, its valuable enough so I probably should have left it alone. You know the story: old enough to know better, but still young enough to do it anyway. guess Ill just have to go out and find another

So what were your settings? Fast & Deep? Iron mask? Ferous or Non Ferous?

deep on, fast off, gain 7, maxvolume 6, IM -14, sens 24, threshold just audible, stock 10 inch coil, stock headphones, still dont own a probe, and doubt I will be able to afford one any time soon
That particular day I was determined to dig untill I found somthing cool. Dig 10 deep beavertails, one will come up a v nickle, dig 20 square nails, one will come up a silverdime, and Ive probably only got 2000 more pulltabs to go before I get a quarter eagle or gold ring #2 (got #1 early last year). And all those signals I dont "for sure" recognize are at the very worst a new learning experiance.
Thanks mike and HH Todd

For common date wore silver it makes them shine like a diamond in a goat's butt though! Never do it to a good date or high grade coin!
