Deep (sea) dreams!

Hello,

last october part of a sunken threasure has been recovered in deep sea here in Italy near Elba island. You can take a look at the nice pictures starting from this page http://www.hdsitalia.com/polluce.htm and then click on the links on the bottom right.
This threasure was onboard the "Polluce" ship , sunk 17 June 1841.
No one has never been aware that the ship was carring a huge threasure until a "pirate" threasure hunters boat has been spotted by local coast guard on the site during February 2000 while they were trying to grab some gold.

Enjoy and dream...

Cheers

Here is a summary of the "Polluce" story:

The "Polluce" was a steamboat of approximately 50 meters length that was carring a real threasure never officially declared.
The "Polluce" sunk 17 June 1841, after a collision with the "Mongibello" ship, in 300 feet deep waters. After a failed attemp to recover the ship in the same year from the Shipowner, several other failed attemps have been made in XX century , failing mostly due to the lack of informations about the real location of the wreck.
In year 2000 a group of british people, tried to steal part of the threasure using a bucket maneuvered from a crane on a tugboat demolishing part of the wreck but they were spotted by local coastguard.
The whole stolen gold has been recovered and an official salvage expedition has been organized later on with private funds. Actually the threasure belongs to the italian government according to italian laws.

That's my best english....
Cheers

Thanks so much luca, I know that was kind of a strain, but we greatly appreciate the effort. Great info!
