Deepest Setting

Whats deepest, Fast and Deep on or just Deep on only?

Theoretically Deep only...certainly depends on your ground and your other settings which all blend into each other. In other words change one setting and alter another. My feeling when you add fast its a quicker audio and may miss one on the edge of detection. Of course with fast on may catch a nice target next to junk..So in all sincerity darned if you do and darned if you don't..Personally if ground is trashy fast and deep and if relatively clean ground go with deep only. Just my opinion and certainly may vary from area to area. Would like some opinions on this question as its certainly debateable...

Seems like it's alllll debateable, but it passes the time till the ground thaws.Still using the ice fishing equipt here.scott

Being a tweaker myself, I have compared targets not yet dug on Normal and AUDIO 1 with DEEP On. AUDIO 1 can really bring out the deepies. Problem is, I cant stand it for too long as it is a constant barrage of sound. It is easier to use when hunting an area the second time around.

Indeed tweakng can get the best out of your unit..but some overtweak and confuse themselves. I believe tweak for a while to get a solid program and
stand pat.Remember most of the facets intertwine and change one and it may alter others. I guess its all a matter of preference and again whatever works...Again no secret programs just ones that work for you in your area.

The best way to get depth is to work in manual, with the sensitivity as high as possible and as open a screen as you can put up with. You may want to up the gain to amplify faint signals (similar to using deep). Anything else adds to your detecting pleasure rather than affecting depth very much although as Dan said many of the control functions do overlap a bit. Oh and I nearly forgot you also have to know your machine very, very well!

ps look in the archives for the previous discussion - it was one of the best ever!

Those settings may have some effect but for me it is marginal. Most have heard my story of digging a measured 11 inch wheat cent on my first time out with the explorer. That was in factory presets with only the sensivity bumped up to 27.
The deep stuff sounds deep, the signal is often quiet, tiny and easily overlooked. The best setting for deep stuff is the one you make in your head that is labeled "investigate every tiny peep".
I remember trying to tweak my first machine for added depth - nothing seemed to work well and the thing became so noisy it was a joke. I probably needed to learn the thing better but the tweaking was endless... not with the Explorer - it has the depth to begin with. Use fast in junky areas; deep in clean ground.
