Deepstar II

Hello PI users:
I haven't received my Goldscan 4 yet and I'm already thinking of my second. Considering the Deepstar II. Had a good discussion with Mr. Bill and I would like to hear from user/owners. Thinking about the Deepstar II because of its additional potential for alternative coils for use upland. I like the chest mount idea besides the fact it should also be well made and reliable for the long term (years). Considered the Fisher 1266X as a backup/alternate type for use with the Goldscan 4; but I think the Deepstar II and the Goldscan 4 would do everything I plan to do for the next several years, although much more expensive. Looking for gold nuggets, gold rings on beaches (with diamonds attached okay) and copper items made by paleoindians and pre-colonial times. Will be searching beaches, upland fields and wooded areas. Not looking for coins or civil war relics.

All the controls are easily accessible as well as visible. I use mine on the wet sand looking for gold jewlery. It goes real deep and will also find very small gold. The coil on the Babs shaft are a plesure to swing, very light. Pinpointing the 11" coil on deepies in easy, just back off the sensitivity till barely audible and the target is within the coil. You won't have to invest in a Bowflex type gym if you use your Deepstar a few times a week.

Yes don't put the chest straps on to tight or you might hurt your back I did this once and had a sore back for a week I usually wear it over the top of a fleece with a high collar so that straps do not rub against the side of your neck.
Cross the straps over diagonally it makes it more comfortable and buy a big spade,it's a good idea to carry a spare spade and a miner's lamp when your down in the deep holes!!!

Many thanks you two. Ha ha, that was good. I take it then that you both like the unit and it goes very (very) deep but it must be heavy or awkward. Well, is this your favorite detector? Have you used it upland? Would you buy it if you were me as this may very well be my last purchase next to a gold pan?

can say "this is the machine for you". I love mine even more than my Aquastar. I do love both, but if I'm not water hunting, I take the Deepstar because chest mounting is very comfortable and the coil is super light, not what I'd call heavy by any means. Performance I'd say is equal on the beach. Their both high quality machines both material wise and engineered. I have never used mine for land hunting yet, but plan on trying it to see if I can pull out some coins my Explorer and Sov. didn't.

Many thanks for your encouraging words. Money does not come easy here but I do have this one-time opportunity to buy a high quality unit and I want to make sure it is the best I can get for the money spent, for several years. I know there are more expensive units out there but this is the limit for me. I think this unit will also perform great for copper and silver upland with the delay turned way up. No detector is designed for or expected to do all but this one may come close for my needs. Please let me know how you makeout upland.

Hello T.L. Stinson,
Would just stick to the beach with Deepstar its tough going with it inland I like to use Explorer XS inland like houndawgg.
