Deepstar PI "1 meter coil"

TJW

New member
Hi I was wondering if any of you made a large 1 meter coil for the Deepstar Pi machine? I would like to build my own. Is there any information regarding building your own coils?

regards,

Tim

For starters do a "search" on this forum on the subject, this has come up before. Go to Geotech and look at their coil building ideas. Good Luck....Don

I have, I like the coil building wood form. But there are no particulars on the design in regards to the Deepstar itself. I will try a number of coil wraps and test for best results.

regards,

Tim

Hi TJW,

Whatever the coil size, aim for an inductance of 300uH and a resistance of between 2 and 4 ohms. At a guess, a 1m square coil would need about 12 turns. You don't have to get the inductance exact; anywhere between 300 and 350uS will work OK, although you may have to turn the pulse delay (reject) control back a bit for the higher inductance values. Always use stranded wire.

Eric.

Thanks Eric, I will that's what I was looking for. I will build one and test it. I will post the results here with pictures if someone else would like to make one.

Is 21 gauge ok or should I go a little bigger?

Tim

I built a 24"x24" square coil and air test are very good. I will use it at a site for a 100x20 yard grids. I will have a report on the Deepstar and the coil soon.

I decided to make a 24" coil first to get the bugs worked out. I tested the coil and the results are good. I have information on building the coil in the report if you want to give it a try. I also made a 5" coil and will add to the report later on that coil.
