Deepstar, starting to learn it

I spent about 2 hours on the beach this morning with the Deepstar, and I now feel like I'm starting to get the hang of it. Kurt, I'm interested in where your settings end up, since I've been struggling getting the settings just right. I end up with the reject about 1 click off of minimum, and the sensitivity about 1-2 clicks off of maximum, and the threshold around 10-12 o'clock.
Today was a fairly good day, one gold emerald/2 diamond ring, a gold chain bracelet, a silver dime (uncommon this time of year) and a *ton* of clad coins. I noticed that the Deepstar loves to eat dimes, I think I got more dimes today than pennies <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">
Anyhow, Kurt (and other Deepstar fans) I'm interested in your typical settings.

You are real close to my settings. In the water I use those settings. I think you have to add a little delay to get the salt out of the picture. I have tested about 200 gold rings that I have and found that even at two marks off the fastest delay time, it still picks up the rings with good depth. On the hard pan I can get away with no delay and the gain at one mark off max. But boy you hate those whispers at those settings. You are going to dig and dig.I have added the quicker tuning mod and it helps to recover faster in the water. Went out this afternoon and found 18 pull tabs, one penny and a nice 14k 5.5 gr wedding band with VENI engraved accross the top? Looks like a nice foreign ring from our vacationing crowd. I too notice it's sensitive to dimes and nickles. Glad to hear your doing well. I found a nice 3/4 ct solitaire engagement ring last Monday and about $4 in clad. The 4th holiday this weekend should add to the collection. Talk with you later. Kurt
 
Jeff also posted this report on my Detector Technology Forum. I thought it would be good (with Jeff's permission) to put the two reports together.
"I have one (deepstar) and use it daily out here in Santa Cruz, CA where the mineralization is somewhat heavy at times. While I'm just now getting used to it, it does indeed go way deeper than my Surfmaster PI and Sovereign/15" coil, in fact the "loud" signals which are easy to pick out and make the majority of my finds at this point have nickels coming out at 12-14", and I hit a dime this morning that was an easy signal at 12+ inches, probably more like 14". This is in moist sand. Quarters are easy targets too.
After using a Surfmaster for 5 years, and a Sovereign for about 8 months I have decided to go back to the PI detectors for the beach (after using the Deepstar). This machine blows all the others off the beach. It's a nice feeling to walk behind other PI's on the beach (mostly surfmasters, lots of those) and pick stuff up right where they walked.
Again, as I posted on another forum, I know this sounds like an advertisement, but it's not. Those who know me know that I'm a straight shooter, no BS. I haven't used a CS7 so I can't comment on that machine, but I know there's a huge gain in depth with the Deepstar over standard PI's, and certainly over any VLF machine.
Enough from me, try one out for a week or so and see how it does for you. Eric, congratulations again on a kick-butt machine.
