On my outings with the VGG I've pulled up many items to say the least, not all desirable but you have to take the rough with the smooth in this hobby like most Detectorist know.
That's the great thing about these analog non VDI models is that the option to be picky with signals is greatly reduced, so you ending up digging more items what can only be a good thing in the long run.
I've seen this in the past before when comparing signals with other Detectorist in the field, with some of their machines they said on some targets what we've compared against they would of walked on due to a low number readout, but it's turned out to be a button or other small non ferrous item near iron or at the fringe of the machines max depth so they would of walked on due to iffy jumpy VDI numbers... this is why people who work off of audio alone tend to have a fuller finds punch after a days digging be it good or bad items filling it.
Many of the items that I've been digging in this one permission are small and going on by what the game keeper has recently told me and what I've seen with my own eyes I now understand why, he said some of these fields have been hawked, he's not stupid and seeing large chunks of lead and iron to the side of a unfilled holes on his morning patrol is a bit of a giveaway, I take it this is why I'm finding lots or smaller items as hawkers I guess don't want to mess around with small signals.
I personally wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of him when he eventually catches them that's for sure.
The more I use this VGG the more I want to stay in the field with it, on the last outing I compared it to a very popular high end detector on the market (no names mentioned so don't ask) but the VGG out shined the machine on some of the deeper signals and sure held its own in amongst the iron what is very good considering the VGG is sitting on an 11" Pitbull coil as standard.
So out of roughly 15 targets I compared the two machines on the VGG produced better audio on around 3 of them and gave the more pronounced audio in general, so considering the reputation and price of the other machine I was testing it against that's a great outcome.
I wasn't surprised really as I've compared the original Vista Gold up against many machines over many targets in the past with a similar outcome, also I've followed a few Detectorist willingly to compare targets and they have been pleasantly surprised at the results that these DeepTech machines produce.
I truly like the way how you can settle this machine down in the stubble and still maintain good depth, I also like the way you can grab good sized items and ignore the smaller shards by dropping the sensitivity and leaning harder on the Gain when possible, by just raising the coil that little more than you normally would you really helps also, gone them little signals that can make you wonder what if, but of course there are some truly tiny and I mean (tiny!) coins and other items out there to be found so do you want to miss them by dropping the sensitivity and risking it?...
I only reduce the Sensitivity when I start digging similar shards in certain areas maybe due to old manufacturing methods or other, even then I still can't help thinking what if it's not just another shard.
With a some machines I've tested in the past even though very good Detectors you can't just opt to just miss the small stuff and just go for the larger items without compromising the depth too much.
We've already heard great words and Seen some great finds with the VGG and can only see it getting better as time goes on.
The Vista Gold Gain was requested as said before by a well seasoned Detectorist Jethro Carpenter to deal with highly mineralised soil, but it's just as happy in non mineralised soil as I'm finding out with each and every visit.
I'm not a beach hunter but dropping the Gain to zero I feel this will do the job on the black stuff also, I will be beach hunting in early spring so will give it ago then.
So if you want a very good versatile field machine that is a great allrounder with super sharp audio then sure have a good look at the DeepTech Vista Gold Gain, this has found me a small Hammered coin on near every outing for me bar a few times.
