Delta 4000 First Impressions

UPS showed up with my wife's new Delta 4000 yesterday and I checked it out alittle this morning. It is very very light ( less than 2.5 lbs), balance seems also very good with the stock 8 in. coil. Air test for depth was very good for sure. Especially for a detector that retails for $279. The Target ID was quite accurate also. It seems to ID coins to around 8-9 in. correctly (air test). Nickels also come in quite well especially for it's low operating frequency. Pinpoint was right on and the depth reading was good, especially if the coins were over 2 in. from the bottom of the coil. It has a nice sounding 3 tone audio. The tones donot seem to run together at all. Overall quality I thought was good considering it's price point. I have owned the Ace and for me I already like this detector more. I never liked the belltone or the pinpointing on the Ace. I also like the locking collars on the Delta to, no wobble at all. One other nice feature it has is not only a 8 segment target ID, but a 0 to 99 meter reading also. This may help in reducing trash digging. 5 year warranty was also a consideration for me. I must point out to the Ace fans that the Ace is not the best selling unit because it is a bad detector. For it's price point the Ace is and has been a fantastic unit. First Texas probably had the Ace in mind when designing the Delta and just may have come up with a winner. One negetive feature I noticed was you loose your settings when you turn the detector off. It does seem very easy and quick to reset them. My T2 has this feature also and once I got use to it, it was no big deal for me. I will also say that these are my first impressions on the Delta and I will see what it will do in the ground this spring. I hope this maybe helpful to anyone consdiering a Delta. I might ad that I was surprised that it also come with a free First Texas pinpointer and carry bag to boot. I think this maybe a promo they are running now. HH Joe

Great write Joe. Sounds like the Delta is good Bang for the Buck. I to prefure it to the Ace line. Thanks for your efforts.

Just got the 4000 and had its first hunt today. Did fairly well with a few missed signals. Will fine tune it and see what it does.
