Delta,,,, impressed

A few months back I purchased a used Delta for my daughter to use, and to use as a loaner. Yesterday I called a good friend and asked if he wanted to detect with me. I walked him through the Delta controls, coached him through a few digs,, then turned him lose and grabbed my T2 for some digging of my own. After a while he calls me over to check a hole and see if he should keep digging. Sure enough, there's an 80 signal in a 6 inch deep hole. He removes one more scoop and out pops a wheatie at a legit 7 inches. I was pretty impressed with my inexpensive, used loaner machine. Before I knew it, he had dug up a second wheatie, and I had only dug clad up to that point. It really lit a fire under me and I finally got on a few older coins myself.

It got me to thinking I might take the lower frequency Delta out for a coin hunt some time. Seems to be deep seeking enough for the average situation.

Yesterday I took the Delta to my local mid 1800's, trashy park. I only found a fired musket ball and an early Jefferson. But interestingly, I dug less trash than usual. Seemed like there were fewer "iffy" signals.

Took it out again today for a short 15 minute hunt just before dark. Hunted a neighbors yard that I have hit 6 or 8 times before with other machines. Didn't find anything deep,, but did score a 3 wheatie spill that I evidently had missed before.

The Greeks have replaced my t2 as my go to unit for coins, deep and much quieter in trash.

Today I was invited to hunt with someone I met on another forum. He uses a Deus. While we had chatted on-line, we had never met before this morning. We went to a spot neither of us had been before. It used to be a school, but they have recently demolished all the structures and only the pavement and a couple of small grass patches are left. Looking at it on google maps last night, I made the decision that this would be the perfect test run for the Delta. I did however bring the T2, just in case Scott was pulling up deep targets with the Deus. After handshakes, Scott asked me what machine I was using. When I said "a used Walmart special", he raised a brow and sheepishly said "well okay?"

It turned out to be a good decision. I set the machine up to notch out everything but coins,,, and boy did it ever shine for me. First coin of the day was the 1950 Rosie. The coolest thing was I only dug a small handful of trash,,, but lots of coins. Lots of memorials,, only one of which was a zincoln. My deepest hole was 4 inches,,, and Scott reported the same.

I think I'm done playing with it for now,,, but it did better than I expected. Not counting depth, I wouldn't feel handicapped using it. And I certainly won't feel bad offering it as a loaner.
