Depth concerns about the Sharpshooter coil on the T2se?

2 Much Trash

Well-known member
I just bought the Nel sharpshooter coil for my T2. Took it out this weekend for a couple hours to an old pounded spot just to get the feel of it before relic hunting season gets underway. I wasn't concerned about it's separating abilities, but did have concerns about its depth capabilities. Most of the posts and videos concerning this coil is based on coin hunting in local parks and tot lots but not much on using it for relic hunting, so depth was a little concern. Well, I'm not too worried about that anymore. I took it to a well hunted spot that we've pounded to death for well over a year. I've not dug many targets at all at this spot more than 7" deep. I guess because of power lines, telephone lines and so much iron trash. I just got a new Deteknix pinpointer also and it's just a tad over 9". The targets you see here, other than the camp lead and percussion caps, were all deeper than the pinpointer, and that's no bull. So if any of you guys are looking to purchase this coil to use on the T2 for relic hunting, don't be too concerned about its depth. It does a good job on this machine.
OH! I was using bp mode, 85 sens., and 25 disc

I found that on my F2 the sharpshooter doesn't increase depth as much as it opens up a full field that is 7" deep from toe to heel that cuts trash like a sharp knife. The only drawback to the SS over say a 5" DD is if you get 2 or more targets in that 9.5 inch field at the same time. That's why it's important to turn different detecting angles.

I also use the Sharpshooter coil on my T2 and its basically not come off the machine in well over a year,no coil is ever going to be totally perfect and tick 100% of all our requirement boxes, but boy this gem of a NEL coil comes as close as you can get.

It is pretty deep but also very sensitive as well, its only a small thing but what i also really like is the way the coil mounts to the bottom rod in the middle of the coil,it makes the overal balance so much better than having it mounted at the rear of the coil like the stock coil.

Like you i dont find EMI as much as a problem as i use too,i am thinking its possible due to a better quality shielded coil cable,it certainly is slightly thicker this may have cured some of the major EMI issues.

The T2.Sharpshooter combination certainly loves gold, the most recent find has been a Celtic gold stater, this one coin on its own has paid for the T2 and my coils just on this one find

Nice going on the lead!

I found out right off that the Sharpshooter coil got good depth on my T2SE. http://www.findmall.com/read.php?58,2010028,page=1

I traded in an AT Gold for my T2 SE. I remember how valuable that 5x8 was. When I got my T2, the first coil I bought for it was the Nel Sharpshooter. Very valuable tool to have in the arsenal, when it comes to swinging the T2!

The reason I tried this coil on my T2 was Tabmans post. Its been on all summer. and will probably stay on. great coil! Just put one on my Gamma 6000.

After reading all of the positive reports, I just ordered one for my T2se. I will see how it campares to the 6x8 sef.
