depth difference between 8 inch round vs the 10 inch elliptical concentric coils

Which one should go deeper? I have tried both on my gamma, and the 8 inch round hits almost 2 inches deeper ( in air ) than the 10 elliptical on a quarter, and around 1-1.5 inches on smaller clad coinage. Does this sound rite? it elliptical I have gotten more finds, on a area i hunted numerous times last week, that the 8 missed. i no for sure i went over this area multiple times with the 8 incher. I'm just confused, I figured the 10 would equal or gain a little depth not loose some. What is your thoughts on this?
Thanks,
nick

The 8 inch coil is deeper than the 10 inch elliptical coil by inch or two. The 8 inch coil handles EMI better. Also, pinpointing is a lot easier with the 8 inch coil.

I find the opposite on the emi. The 10 has the thicker cable and I can run in the 90s + where the 8 inside im 65 outside im in the low 80s. Pinpointing I think is close. Ive had no issue finding my mark . But I staryed with a non pinpointing detector so I always go side to side. And front to back. Even when pinpointing. So I guess. Im good. From what you say depth wise. Thanks.

my findings were as those Tabman reported. The 8" coil I use gets a bit better depth, pinpoints a little better, and has less problems in dense iron trash. I don't have the earlier version thin cable on my 8" coil, but the more recent thicker coil cable.

As always Monte, your insite is sooooo valuable. I just posted in differnt forums for different point of views. You are the gold standard for help. And do highly appreciate it.
I will give the 10 a good run. And maybee send my 8 to first texas and have them put a new cable on it. I think it bay be leaking. The one time I got it wet going on the edge of the beach, the machine went crazy untill I held it up for a while shaking it and got most the water off of it. After a few minutes it was fine again. Its under warranty. And now I have the ten so I van sendit in. Before I could not as it was my only coil. Thanks.
