Depth of larger coils at the beach

Will be taking my e trac to the Outer Banks in North Carolina In a few weeks--The Outer Banks has produced older finds from the numerous shipwrecks over the past 300 or more years. I plan on hunting the low tide area where the least amount of trash is and was wondering what, if any, the depth advantage is for the larger coils. To set the record straight---I will be receiving my NEW e trac in a few days-replacing my Whites 6000 D of 25+ years---want to be prepared for deeper targets. Concerns: 1. Weight 2. Battery drain for a larger coil 3. Will a shark eat me Thanks for your advice---------Boog

Do you have any larger coils for the E-Trac yet? Weight will seem like a problem for a little bit as you swing for the first time, but as you get used to it, not nearly as bad. If your using a larger coil than stock, might have to look at the bungee system to help with the weight. Just a thought. I've never hunted a beach or used a larger coil, so I don't know about battery drain. I think my re-chargable battery that came with my machine would go a good 12-14 hrs. and still have not been completely drained.

Let us know how things turned out.

I believe there may be some restrictions on metal detecting the outer banks of NC (i know somewhere on NC beaches there is no detecting for sure)??? - some sort of federal guidelines - I would suggest you run a search here and check that out before you are disappointed. The US park rangers show NO mercy to metal detecting enthusiasts. Good luck with your E-Trac and HH.

I am going to Corolla this Friday for 10 days.I was told by people I rented beach house from that you cannot hunt state or federal parks but you can hunt from North Nags head all the way to Virgina line.Like anything it will be extremely hunted out until a large storm comes in.

A big coil is all about coverage. Yes you will get depth too. Deeper than you will want to dig sometimes.Battery drain i haven't noticed a difference. The beauty of the ET and most ML is the discrimination. It's almost 3D compared to other detectors. I don't fear the dry sand at all.
