Depth on a Detect 4” x 18” coils

GroundScanner

Well-known member
Hi guys, was wondering if the Detect 4” x 18” gets great depth ? Is it more for covering ground , not so much for depth. Thanks for any info.

I had one on a f75, I was hitting coins and stuff well over 6 inches that's for sure. Found a silver braclett I'll bet easy 6 inches..can't speak for other machines and that coil, but on the f75 it's deep..

Nice , like to hear it. I have a F75 and would use it for that detector also. I can get a new one for $109 but it’s for the ATPro. However I don’t feel the Pro is deep. I may be mistaken.

Use mine on both AT Max and Apex, mainly for beach detecting both wet/dry.
Depth on both detectors on wet beach to 10" on a Nickel.

I believe the general rule is that a detector depth is based on coil width not length, Thus a 6" x 18" coil would have a depth of 6" of so on an average size target, But great coverage! The rule of coil width and detecting depth breaks down past a coil width of about 10" or so and this is why a 9" coil is ideal for a lot of detecting and why a 11" standard coil is nearly the same depth as my M15 coil on my Manticore or 17" coil on my CTX 3030. Great for coverage but don't expect much more depth then 11" coil (1-2").

In V3i 7 inches on silver quarter.
Rock solid.
Depends on your machine.
Bought one that was supposed to run on the Bandido 2.
Just doesn't like it.

Hi @Odanscoils .
Was that a Detech Arrow coil for your Bandido II µmax? I always thought it was an original Cleansweap from Tesoro.🙄

I have both.
Ot just didn't like the arrow.
Wouldn't ground balance.
When I got it quiet it couldn't detect anything.
Kept screaming when ever it came close to the ground.

Sounds like the coil was either not compatible or faulty. Detech is usually a very good company so I would suspect there was something wrong with the coil. Maybe the shippers used it as a weapon at some point before you received it...
Arrow would be nice for ground coverage but don't think it would have very good separation. I would think EMI will drastically effect it's depth and id accuracy.

Using one on my VX3/MXT/DFX. Works really nice, very good separation from targets nearby, and depth on a dime will be 6-7" in moderate soil.
With that said and knowing the detech-service, I'd contact them and ask what to do.

I'm wondering if it's because the Big foot coil is not in the list of coils to select.
I tried selecting the 3×6 coil from the list.
Seems louder. Haven't been able to test it fully.
Seems louder now.

According to Dankowski, the 5 inch coil for the F75 was 10 inches deep

Like vito, I am well pleased with the separation and I haven't noticed any increase in EMI on my non updated T2 SE over any of my other coils for it.

The Bigfoot never was made for the Spectra series.
So why should they have put settings for it to the selectable coils list?🙄
And the Arrow arrived the market to late to be tested by White's for the Spectra line.🤓
I'm pleased with mine, works on three (3) White's detectors, even in 3 freq.-mode on the VX3.😜

When I had my DeLeón back in the days it was a very well detecting machine.😊
As a long term White's user I liked the 6x10 DD Eclipse.😎
So I ordered a 10x12" Wide Scan for my DeLeón and was really disappointed.😢
That thing lacked in depth.😲
But with my knowledge from today I know the detector was not tuned for this coil.🤓
Simple.👍😁

I'm still new my machine.
Was told it would function on it.
As far as settings.
I know nothing. Trying though.

I think you're knowing a lot. Sometimes it can be you mix up things, but that can happen to everyone.

You say the Arrow gives you 7" on a silver quarter on the V3i. That's ok to me.
If your second one, what was supposed to run on a Tesoro Bandido, fails, send it back to the seller.
