depth reading on a F2

I am hoping I can get some help with this problem. I have a F2, had it several months, and am still having problems getting an accurate depth on my signals. It usually shows up as 1 or 2 inches and I dig and find nothing, I was with another mder last Monday and had him check the spot with his detector and it showed the item down about 4 more inches. I am getting a lot of signals and not finding anything. The pin pointer seems to be working as far as location but depth seems to be missing. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Are you trying to read depth in the pinpoint mode?
If so I don't think they work like that, they read depth during search mode. Try this,
Find a target, sweep over it enough to ID it,
Then make another pass over it as close as you can to the ground (across and back two beeps)
then look at the square blocks for the depth. Each square starting from the top down is about two inches.
One block at the top = 2"
Two blocks = 4"
Three block = 6" or deeper.

I have found that the little F2 is one very NICE detector for the price, it surprises me every time I take it out. I got it mainly for cleaning up surface money in ball fields and soccer fields, and for the wife and grand kids to use. But I find myself out with it more and more. I could say with a LOT of certainty that the F2 is the best in it price range! First Texas did real good with this machine.

Another thing, when you pinpoint you can de-tone the signal by re-pressing the pinpoint button when your CLOSE over the target, but! what I found out about the F2 was it works better to lift the coil a little above the ground and move it back and forth (weave over) and listen for the most signal (strongest signal) then lower it straight down to the ground, the target most of the time will be directly below the center of the coil.

i know with my F2 it will pick up hot rocks and you won;t find anything.but you learn to read it when it does that.but I also found it pick up items super deep when ground is just right wetness to.It will also pick up minute metal items to that are easy to miss. And excess water on coil causes falseing. I wipe coil off when searching in wet grass from rain or dew.. Try Xing also opposed to pinpoint I find it more accuate alot of times. Try the sniper coil it is dead on for finding stuff, in fact my best finds have been with it.

If your not finding the target after you pinpointed its possible it is a wee bit deeper or in the side of the hole you dug.
You might want to invest in a hand held pin pointer. I bought the Garrett Pro-pointer and now find ALL of my targets.
That was not the case a few years back when I started MDing and had no hand held pin-pointer at all. Does this help or
did I misunderstand your problem?

I have the F4 and based on the F2 manual your pinpoint is identical to mine, the only difference being I use the 11" DD coil. I have found the depth and pinpoint to be spot on for a coin. It is calibrated to a coin, so something smaller will show deeper than it is and something larger will show more shallow. Also, you need to pinpoint exactly for the depth to be correct. Keep twisting the coil just a tad back and fourth until the tone gets loudest and the number gets lowest. Once there, if its a coin it will be within an inch of the ID # and directly under the your coul's pinpoint location.

"DEPTH INDICATOR: (in pinpoint mode) The Depth Indicator is calibrated tocoin-sized objects. It indicates the depth of the target, in inches. Large and irregularly-shaped objects will yield less reliable depth readings When passing over an object, the depth indicator will light up and stay illuminated while an object is in the field of detection. the depth indicates the distance, in inches from the center of the search coil to the target."
