I traded 2 detectors towards purchase of Chaser with 12x10 coil from Backwoods Detectors. This morning I put in 30 minutes in local park's bark chip area.
First, I tossed some coins in the surface to note the numerical readout. The following numbers are all plus / minus:
clad quarter: 85
clad dime: 80
nickel: 45
1974 Penny: 80
In the bark chips I found 2 pennies, 1 dime ad 1 ring - a toy pot metal ring unfortunately. I used the default sensitivity and gain settings, coin program and mixed tones.
Observations:
The 12x10 coil tends to fold under when I put the detector down. I have a coil stabilizer which I installed. A large zip lock bag serves as a cover for the face plate.
When walking over a section of sidewalk that has rebar in it, I could raise the coil almost 4 feet and still get a signal.
My next session will be in the oldest part of another park and if the soil is not dry below the surface, I'll try the high gain setting and let this depth monster go for the old coins.
The 12x10 coil is heavy and lends itself to concentrating on a relatively small area and focusing on extracting items that were too deep for any of my other detectors.
