Detecting Florida Keys

MikeVA

New member
I've seen conflicting information about whether it's legal to metal detect in the Florida Keys (am going to Marathon next week). I'm assuming that state parks and wildlife refuge areas are certainly off limits. But is it ok to snorkel and detect anywhere else in the water? Ok to detect on the beach? Does anyone have any specific guidance or areas to offer? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

I grew up in Marathon and was down there in may and hunted a couple local beaches, one is Sombrero beach and the other is Coco Plum Beach both are city of Marathon beaches and there are no restrictions on hunting. You might want to try Bahia Honda state beach about twenty miles further down US 1. call ahead for the state park because they might have some special rules and regs.Good Luck

Mike i have hunted smathers beach in the past. It is not far from the Airport on the east side of Key West. I also hunted local beaches closer to downtown, near the Southern most point of the U.S. good luck, and take plenty of sun screen. HH
