About two years ago we were give permission to detect a private park owned by a fraternal organization. They purchased this park in the early 40's and have never let anyone detect it. The park is table top flat and about the dimensions of a football field.
The first day that we were there I found about 110 coins. The second day about 130 coins. This place was polluted with coins. I stopped there on Saturday and found 44 coins bringing my total finds up to 435 coins. With what my Mom and my brother have found we have about a combined total of about 700 coins.
What's really strange about this location is that I have a decent handful of wheats that I've found along with many other pennies and nickels prior to 1965 but I've only ever found one silver dime and it was a 1964. When I was there on Saturday, of the 44 coins that I found, about 8 were from the mid to late 60's but again no silver. I found a 65,66,67 & 68 quarter, a wheat and a 65 dime.
I had a minor revaluation the other night and wanted to run this question past everyone. I hunt in a pretty open mode. I only have -8, -6 & 48 discriminated out.
I guess my questions is.....does anyone ever find silver coins with an ID of 48? Anytime I've found silver it's always been between 38 & 44 and air testing also gives me that same range.
I'm kind of on this place with a vengeance to find some silver because I have to believe that it's there but for some reason I just can't find it. I've used HF, MF, 10.5" & 6" coils. Just can't figure out why this place doesn't seem to have any silver. Let me know what you guys think.
