detecting the gulf coast

I'm a Northwest guy who has done some beach hunting along rivers and lakes. My gear is an AT Pro with the 8 1/2 x 11 DD coil and a plastic sand scoop. Next month I'm taking the detector to the Florida panhandle for some beach and surf detecting. I have questions some of you may be kind enough to respond to:
1. which coil is best on the Pro for water and sand use?
2. what sand/water scoop should I buy?
3. any special gear suggested?


Being a senior citizen weight is a factor.
Your helpful knowledge and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You have the best coil for saltwater and sand. I purchased a sand scoop from holland brooks cost was 125$ free shipping. It is all aluminum and weighs 4 lbs. A bit pricey and a little heavy but very sturdy. I will trade weight for bending over several times any day.I use a peice of rope on mine tied to one of my belt loops and drag it behind me. It works ok for me. Hope you find gold. HH

Rtread, thanks for the tip on Hollands Brook. I ordered the same scoop from them. I'll cut it in half and insert a dowel to fit it in my duffel. Suppose I'll have to drill a hole by the handle for a rope tether, too, unless there is a hole there already.

If you run into a lot of noise from black sand the 5 x 8 may run quieter, it seems to for me. Your ground balance will need to change from dry sand to wet sand to water. Usually I run an auto GB then drop 5 points or so and it will usually run pretty smooth.
