Detector for wet sand

Jim I really cant answer your question as I am not familiar with the Explorer XS. I swing the Sovereign Gt and or Excalibur II for the wet sand. My Sovereign Gt is poor on small gold items such as small gold chains and small gold earrings. It is very stable on the wet sand and allows me to run sensitivity quite high. It does however require me to turn sensitivity down some when I transition to the dry sand. I have found dimes as much as a foot deep in both the wet and dry sand. Since the factory installed 10" coil is waterproof I dont have to worry about flooding the coil in the shallows. HH

The only advantage would be in the physical design, not in performance. You can hipmount the Sov, keeping the controls that much further away from any water and the rods on the Sov are not like the Explorers in that on an Explorer I found the water can shoot up the inside of the rod if your not careful. Also hipmounting makes the Sov easier to swing for longer periods of time also.
If your talking only wet sand, no wading, then no advantage spending money on a Sov.
