Detector problem yesterday

for what it's worth - I took my friend out detecting yesterday. I used my Fisher 1266 and he used my Shadow X2. The first site had sand around the play things. Right away his detector sounded off with many signals as he swept it anywhere. I tried it and it also seemed to give off sounds when I moved the control box. I tried it on the sand and went to a volleyball court that was attached to the park.

There I tried it again and the same multi signals. I figured it was a loose connection at the box so we quit for the day. Bummer.

Today I sat down to take the face off and look for loose wires but it didn't sound off. I tried it on the floor and perfect. I took it out to the yard and perfect. I believe the sand must have had iron particles in it causing the sounds. I have found this situation a number of times in so Az. The mines sometimes donate a mix of stuff to schools & parks. Usually my Fisher sounds off and I have to switch to the Shadow. Now, though, I switch to my Fisher 1280 X as it isn't bothered by minerals.

so that's the story - maybe you all can file that away for future reference in case a similar thing happens. Probably if we had gone to a completely new site it would have worked. Steve in so az

Wish I could try the Garrett GTAx 1250 there. I can 'notch' out things individually - like iron and still pick up everything else. Maybe ya need to carry a rake with magnets attached to pick up a lot of the loose iron. Is that 'black' sand? You might be standing on a gold mine = break out the dry washer and see if you find some gold. Have to laugh thinking you Steve would be the first person to stake a claim to a gold mine in a kid's playground.

I had troubles today also! Major interference in a corn field with no wires around?????
