I decided to do a little detectin' today, for the first time since April. I didn't really have any plans, so I hit a wooded spot not far from work. This used to be along the strip of road, in what was once a small township. Within 200 yards of todays spot, I have found wheats, silver, IH's and other odds and ends.
The nice thing is, this is completely off the path. It is planted in pines and anything old is long forgotten and very deep. There is no electrical interference and the ground is clean, ground balancing very low on the scale. I ran the SENS at very high levels (80 or more), with my the pre-amp gain also cranked up - and got only the occasional ghost whimper from the detector.
As you can imagine, when you get a signal under these conditions, it is strong and free of trash clutter. On top of all that, it is quiet out there in the woods and there was not a soul around, but me.
The bad thing is it is hit or miss along this piece of road. If you get on a spot where there was a house or other activity, you can find some goodies. If you get into a spot where nothing happened, then that's what you find - nothing. Today's spot was one of those and the finds were meager to say the least...

I expect that the jars were uncovered during some recent earth moving for a small road in the vicinity. SO maybe something else has been uncovered and is waiting. It was nice, regardless of the finds. I'll go back.
And in case anyone wondered what I've been doing for the last 6 months, here's a hint...
