Deteknix vs Sennheiser wireless headphones

I'm about to buy a set of wireless phones for my F75. Would like to hear the pro and cons of these phones. Thanks

Boils down to how much you have in your budget to spend. $89 or $500
The DT work on every detector I have tried, Fisher, Teknetics, White's, Tesoro, my Mirage PI, AT Pro,
The new Wire Free Pro's cover the full ear and are very comfortable.

Well after googling and ready reviews I went w the Sennheisers. I'm impatient lol. Better battery life and sound from what I read. Also a bit less lag.

Hello pvtcook,

I ordered the Sennheiser RS 160's, but they are due to arrive today, which is why I couldn't give you a performance review yet. As you are aware the price is indeed NOT $500.00, but actually $106.24 with free shipping. (from the place I purchased them)

The 24 hrs operating time on a full charge, was a huge factor in my choice also. Two full days of detecting with no need for recharge was appealing. It appears they are pretty much plug and play, no pairing procedures to deal with.

There were 837 customer reviews, (at my purchase sight), with a solid 4 out of 5 avg. which is very good with that many reviews. That many reviews also indicate that they are have been around a while and is a solid performer. Very good reviews on sound quality. The KLEER technology is supposed to be one of the best in terms of any perceived time lag.

The disc shaped transmitter, I will attach to the right side of the detector arm cup, using removable adhesive velcro strips for hanging items on walls with no permanent marks/holes left behind when removed.

It comes with both 1/8 & 1/4 plug adapter, which will come in handy, because since I am purchasing them, I will also use them for home audio use, TV and such.

I also saw replacement ear cups available from about $11.00 bucks. As to comparison only time will tell. I believe I can predict up front that the sound quality will be top notch. As to durability ...??

I went with the Deteknix W6 Pro. They are very comfortable, ear cushions are real soft. No lag whatsoever. Charge time is supposed to be good for 8-10 hrs. which is good enough for my hunting style.

I gave the W6 Pro's a serious look also. To be honest at $159.00 (the price of the ones I saw), they were much closer to the fictional $500 mark Sven mentioned.

I don't think either one would disappoint. My guess is that many more use the Deteknix brand, simply because the targeted market is metal detectorist's.

Do you think the Sennheisers will stand up to the sweat, dirt, and environment? That was my concern with the "indoor type" wireless headphones.

Hey pvtcook,

My Sennheiser's arrived this a.m. Here's a quick review based on about 20 min. on my F75. (awful humid wouldn't normally be detecting in that heat/humidity)

It has a DVD with owners manual on it.

First of all the male plug that goes into the device (detector) is 1/8. I saw no adapter for 1/4, I simply got a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter from Radio Shack, a couple bucks. (I may have misunderstood when reading the info about an included adapter)

It includes 2 rechargable AAA batteries for the headphones, with charger. I simply put in my own regular batteries to start, simply because I didn't want to wait for the charging cycle. The transmitter takes 2 AA batteries, or you can use the provided AC power connector for use in home applications. ( The transmitter has a 60 ft range for home use, you can run 4 headphone units at a time, for home theater use etc.)

I use a 90 degree adapter for my F75 audio jack. I plugged in the 1/8 adapter into it, then plugged the transmitter into it. The transmitter dimensions are roughly 3 3/4" x 3 3/8'. It easily attaches to the right side of the arm cup on my F75 with removable adhesive velcro strips. (my preferred method/location of attachment, others may opt differently)

It is plug and play. Pairing is automatic, when I turned it on, it was good to go.

In my limited trial run, my experience was: headphone comfort/adjustability-EXCELLENT, signal time lag-EXCELLENT (none discernible), sound quality- EXCELLENT, no interference or distortion encountered.

Dave E, to answer your durability question. The earpad cover material doesn't appear to be extemely durable, replacements are available in different materials starting at about $11, so that wasn't an issue to me. I went in with eyes wide open on that one. The construction of the headpiece/outer earcups is quite substantial, actually more so than the Deteknix pictures I have looked at, in my opinion. The headphone ergonomics were great, perfect angle for comfortable fit! They are NOT waterproof, just like most detectors, obvious precautions should be taken in that regard. Like any electronic equipment, if you abuse it, you shorten it's lifespan.

LIKE ANYTHING, IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING WIRELESS, DO YOUR HOMEWORK, COMPARE FOR YOUSELF. DON'T RELY ON ONE OPINION, MY PREFERENCES/USE APPLICATIONS, AREN'T NECESSARILY YOURS. AS WITH ANYTHING, BE IT A DETECTOR, OR COIL, ETC., A BIG (*) SHOULD BE PUT BY ANY OPINION. * RESULTS MAY VARY*

Based on my initial run through of them, I like them, and have no regrets in my purchase. I'll be able to operate unattached to my F75 as with my CTX! Ain't freedom great!

Man that all sounds great. I tend to over analysis things. This was a tough decision for me. Most of my decisions are lol. I too got mine for $106 shipped. If I don't like them I'll use them for watching TV I guess and go back to my gray ghost. Good luck on yours. I hope to have mine soon. I ordered yesterday. Keep me updated. I will you too. Thanks.

Hey pvtcook,

I also tend to analyze things closely before purchase. Nothing wrong with that, in doing so, we tend to get the best bang for our buck, and make fewer bad choices in equipment. I'm glad to see you did some research, and came to the same conclusion.

One transmitter dimension I forgot, is the thickness. It is about 1" at it's thickest, and tapers to maybe about 3/4". It fits snuggly against the right side of the armrest, if that's where you choose to put it. (if so, get a couple removable adhesive velcro fasteners) I had some on hand because that's what we used to hang pictures in my Daughter's college aptartment.

If you don't already have a 1/4" 90 degree adapter, I would suggest you get one. I had one already, because they come in handy for certain types of audio jack locations, it keeps the jack from sticking out too far, or, putting strain on the cord when at angles. Being as you have a F75, it would stick straight out behind the machine and could catch on somthing also.

I would also get the 1/4" to 1/8" adapter I mentioned. !/4" on the male end, 1/8" on the female end, to match the 1/8" jack on the transmitter plug. If you're like me, and don't have the patience to wait for the included batteries to charge, I would also have 2 alkaline AAA batteries for the earphones, and 2 AA's for the transmitter on hand. If you have those things on hand, you will be ready to use them on your F75 immediately. The 90 degree adapter isn't a necessity, but, it brings everything tight against the battery housing. The two adapters will be less than $5 total, at Radio Shack.

They aren't designed for just indoor use. One use stated, is portable equipment, I think a metal detector qualifies as that.

Hope you enjoy the wireless phones pvtcook!

I cannot comment about the Sennheiser headphones, but i do own a set of the Deteknix ones and had them since christmas, must admit i really like them, very durable and thus far worked on all of my machines, battery time was originally quoted as just 6 hours run time but over the last 8 months they have never run out of charge,so have had a regular 8 hours daily use,but too be on the safe side i always carry a battery bank with me anyway just incase and also a couple of pairs of wired headphones just incase.

Its typical that if i am away on a weekend detecting trip with just the wireless headphones they would pack up,so hence the backup wired ones.

Mega glad yours worked out for you. I got mine in yesterday. I'm going to try them tomorrow. I hope I like them. We will see.
