Deus at the beach

unearth

Member
Has anybody used the Deus at a So. Cal. beach? Would like to hear how well the unit worked. I've seen videos saying it works well at beaches, but would like to hear from some forum members about their experience. Thanks in advance.

Hi Gary, I use mine mostly in the dry sand. The wet sand is not as easy or comfortable especially since I use a PI for that.

However once when my PI batteries ran down I grabbed my Deus and was amazed at how well it rally did. It picked up a small silver charm from a nice 6" to 8" depth. One thing I learned is to really pay attention to the signals...any "maybe" signals are false and when you get a sure thing it's a real signal.

So generally speaking .. not the best use in the wet sand ... dynamite in the dry!

Regards, Joe

As Joe says, it will work but if you are comparing it to a PI or multi-frequency detector it will obviously not fare as well. There are several "tricks" that you can use to get the optimal performance out of the Deus in black sand / salt water conditions and you will be able to pull some deep targets doing so. My daughter and I hunter the northern Florida / southern Georgia beaches last Fall and were hitting targets deeper than you could pull out with a hand scoop before the hole filled in when hunting the wet sand area.

In the dry sand, you will get great performance and the sensitivity to small gold is impressive . . . I have pulled earring backs out with solid signals in this area.

Hunting near the boardwalk where you might get into high trash, the Deus stands out as well as if you find yourself getting electrical interference which tends to drive multi-frequency and PI units crazy - simply try an offset or switch frequencies.

Hope this helps

Andy
