Deus or Etrac?

The light weight surely sounds great - It is great. 2.2 pounds with everything attached, less then 2 pounds with the control unit not attached.

What concerns me about the Deus is - battery charging / having to send back to the manufacturer - You can change the battery yourself on the control unit and head phones. It's only the coil you send to the Sevice Center (which is located in the USA). According to everything that I've read, even after 400 + charges, the batteries still maintain 80% of capacity and should last you many years before needing to replace.

The fact that is was made for a European market - True the ID #'s are geared toward what is found in Europe, but once you've learned where the US coins fall on the ID scale it should not matter.

ID readings not accurate at deep levels when compared to the Etrac - It's true that the E-Trac will ID at greater depths, but the E-Trac will also bounce around as well. If you hunt by sounds vs. ID#'s it is not an issue.

Coil size - possible upgrade this year may fix the problem, but it is expensive - any word on if it is our yet?; and price - The 9" stock coil is a nice size as it really works well in trashy areas and still big enough to cover some ground. Remember, that the Deus is a very fast machine, which will allow you to swing a little faster then the E-Trac. The 13" larger coil will run you about $500.00, which includes the hardware, coil cover, and shaft. Their expensive because the coil contains the electronics that analyze the target and sends a radio link to the control unit and head phones.

Do you know anyone that has an E-Trac or Deus? The best way to find out what you would prefer, is to try them out.

Can you please expand on why you make the statement underlined in the red section?

True the ID #'s are geared toward what is found in Europe

ID numbers on any detector have nothing to do with Europe or USA or UK.....etc,

Whites normalise their VDI's, at whatever frequencies, to those value-equivalents at 7 KHz (approx)

On the Deus, they're just non-normalised, frequency-related representations of conductivity.

The reason for that, is to allow optimum discrimination, by frequency selection, for different conductivities and thicknesses of targets.

Very funny video. Thanks for sharing.

My suggestion buy Etrac or borrow both to compare. Because Deus is very similar to all single frequency detectors, dont think that wireless do so much important to detecting, coil still attached to shaft and you have to swing it. I had XP Goldmaxx and now Power and was close to get the Deus- glad I not bought it. Deus Good-but no way better than Explorer or Etrac, and dont look stupid videos with nails and small Etrac coils, original Pro coil works best for etrac.
Good detecting spots you can recheck with another single frequency detector like Tejon or Vaguero or any other. Used Etrac 1000$ + Tejon 400$ and you have what you need. Most people forget about Deus and other XP that in heavy Iron you have to check target 90 degrees because other way you will dig million or billion nails with other iron items. With Etrac is not. Hot rocks another story.
Remember in USA is no hammered coins, but allot trash foil and Deus is made exactly for this.

I find that small & medium sized foil/aluminum can slaw targets and other smaller than US sized coin targets over a few inches deep will up average to US coin ID numbers. These same targets would be a low foil tone and ID with the E-Trac and could be ignored. The key here is US coinage ID numbers as I am sure if we were hunting tiny hammered and cut coins this would be a blessing. Not so much in our public parks where lots of foil candy wrappers and can slaw targets can be overwhelming if not IDed different than our coins at depth.
Now if I were hunting small gold jewelery this would be a big benefit over the E-Trac as the Deus is much better able to hit small/tiny gold targets:thumbup:

what a load of trash foil :nopity:

sorry shall i iron that out :twodetecting:

cool specs m8

I'd like to see some comparison videos on coins in and around iron - Found with the Deus and checked with the E-Trac. I am an E-Trac user but I get the feeling that the E-Trac is not even close to the Deus when the iron gets bad or larger. I have pulled lots of small iron (rusted nails) from holes with coins but never medium or larger iron - How about you Deus users?

I also see over on Rogers Relics that the Deus loses it's VID on coins at around 8" or so, though not the sound - think I saw that same approximation mentioned here. So, it does seem like the E-Trac is the deeper machine with VID and the Deus is the machine to go to in iron. I wonder how much better the Deus is than the E-Trac though. If it is substantially better then it really warrants consideration for a purchase imo. Just a one machine guy right now but it seems like the Deus is the machine to have in iron and here in Europe it's bad...

I have both machines (E-Trac and XP Deus) and use both. I bring of both them with me on every hunt and make the choice of which one to use once I make a determination of what the conditions are. If I'm faced with a site that has a lot of trash/iron, I'll use the Deus. For cleaners sites or sites with deeper targets, I'll pull out the E-Trac. A lot of hunts, I'll start out with the E-Trac and switch to the Deus when the E-Trac starts to get heavy. You pretty much have every possible condition covered with these two machines. One thing for sure, the Deus cannot be beat when it comes to trashy areas. I've dug several coins where they have been completely surrounded by rusted nails.

Hi Steve. Just wanted to say thx for the nice reply. I often get around on my bike - the peddle variety ;-) And the ability to pack it up is VERY attractive and my back is screaming for something lighter!

Still looking forward to some comparison videos guys.
