Dew brought up a good point while we were discussing the noise cancel situation that not many folks ever think about but it's very true.

No 2 machines are exactly equal to each other. That is the very reason WHY some machines are just better all the way around than others of the same brand & model ... even produced on the same day or by the same person for that matter.

Since just about every individual component that makes up the circuit boards for our electronic toys must fall within a certain positive or negative tolerance range (ie. +or-5) it's easy to see that by the pure LUCK of the draw you can end up with a excellent performer that had very close overall tolerances ( precise ) transistors, diodes, capacitors etc. as a package deal and it will out perform most others.

Some dealer friends and myself proved this by grabbing stock from the shelf and testing 10 of each model, we did find a couple of hotter, smoother running detectors in the batch of those tested.
We checked for discriminating, notching, overall sound quality and of course air testing outside.

Kind of like taking 10 identical motorcycles out of their shipping crates, gas them up, put them on a dynamometer and one or two out of the bunch will just run better all the way around and actually show more horsepower.

So ... no 2 detectors will be exactly the same unless the manufacturer tested and hand picked EVERY component and you can BET that aint gonna happen

Now don't let this scare some of you off from buying your next metal detector ... especially an Explorer .. it's kind of like how good does anyone need to be at throwning hand grenades, all Explorers are silver killers :)

Good Hunting
Mike
