DFX--XLT ???

Which is the better one of the two for all around hunting. Bob

the XLT is a great machine too. the DFX is really not different than the XLT than for the frequencies and several other options. a few more preset programs are included, but thats what you pay the extra 200 or 300 dollars for. both machines are great...i recommend either.

I have owned three DFX's and used others. I have also hunted with fellows who were quite proficient (or so it would have seemed) with the DFX. I have never had a DFX user out-perform me with my XLT. I have used other makes and/or models and done comparisons at the same huntsite, and have not had a DFX user out-perform what I was using. (At the sites where compared I have been using an XLT, MXT, 6000 Pro XL, modified IDX Pro or modified Classic III SL.)
I DO LIKE the fact that the DFX's display is sharper in contrast, and I DO LIKE the quick action mode change of the DFX ... however, ... I prefer the TID of the XLT, I prefer the more adjustable Pre Amp Gain range of the XLT, and in the highly mineralized locations I usually hunt, I have smoother operation with the XLT.
In addition, since the IDX Pro is my most used make/model detector, I like the fact that it and the XLT can share search coils.
Sure, I am most likely going to be in the minority on this one, but I tend to use what works for me, and the XLT does.

No question. Hunts deeper, far better on the beach, and is able to deal with any situation.

atleast, as far my hunting requirements go. Monte is very knoledgeable I've used his custom programs with great sucess.

I have an Eagle Spectrum and have many nice finds with it.At first i was intimidated by all the facet changes, but after a lot of field use it all came together and i was comfortable with the Spectrum.I am a new owner of a DFX and i think it is a different beast than an Eagle or XLT.The factory programs seem to have a hotter setup than the Spectrum as i've had to lower the AC sens and VDI sens a bit at some sites to achieve a stable detector, then had to use correlate to get rid of the constant iron smear. The DFX is a multiple faceted detector and perhaps it isn't for the quick set and go folks but i have other detectors and use them at different times. The DFX for me is the most adjustable detector there is and if you apply common sense adjustments and log your progress it could be the most productive detector available if you take the time to learn.HH Bill

For all round hunting except the beach where more frequencies are better the XLT wins every time (though I found the Spectrum a little deeper and smoother than the XLT but it didn't have the extra programme slots and is a bit heavier otherwise I would have stuck with that model).
Had two DFX's just in case the first was not up to spec. and returned to the XLT as have most of the club members in my area.
