Did I learn something !!

This evening I decided to stay home and play with some of the settings.

From what I learned tonight ..... I think that I will always hunt in the all metal mode.
I took off my gold rope chain and it did not pick up in coin and jewelry mode.

I did however get a solid repeatable beep in the all metal mode with a -10

So ... I am thinking that the best way to use the Safari might be to use
all metal and just learn all the tones.

Any thoughts?

Now save an all metal patern with 'conductivity',you will notice the positive readings are much the same as in the standard all metal programe which runs in 'ferrous',BUT,minus figures are different in conductivity, iron will give you a clear high tone(so you need to keep an eye on the display),non ferous, like thin gold /silver,if it gives a minus number, will always have a low tone or growl.
So minus reading /high tone=leave it in the ground,
Minus reading low tone/growl= dig, looking for a small maybe deep target.
Positive numbers = dig,as they will be much the same as in ferrous.

If you are going to hunt in all metal(as a lot do over here in the UK,you can flick between these two all metal programes, say from ferrous to conduct,if you get a gentle minus signal to check if its worth a dig.
I personally hunt in all metal conductivity on a lot of my sites if I think it likely for there to be small hammered silver coins.
Take a look at this vid.

Hello!

I'm confused on this. When I turn on the Safari in all metal ... its set up for (F) sounds.

What are the specific steps to set up the all metal in conductivity.
How do you do that ?

Thanks for your help!

HI Geoff, start of in coins& jewelry mode, move the curser to the left and reject all the shaded area, press and hold all metal mode until you see SAVED,you are now in ALL METAL MODE with conduct sounds.

Thanks for the video link Geoff, they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

Very helpful to me as a newbee.

THANKS

No worries mate,I think in the vid he may have been running the detector in high trash, giving very mixed signals at times due to iron infested ground,if there is not too much iron, two or three signals per sweep, try low trash, with a sweep speed of 3 seconds each way,if you get a non ferrous signal working that way it will be a much clearer low tone.
Hope this helps.

I'd like to know how to setup the hunting in metal conductivity mode too. Let me know the settings too. Thanks,Norm Marsh

Hello !

I went out today and hunted in all metal conductivity mode.

I'm confused all over again ! I was getting alot of high tone
negative numbers. Running with auto sensitivity etc ....

Maybe someone can share their best settings etc..

Thanks!

The High tone negative numbers are iron in conductivity,if there is so much iron that the maching is sounding off more than is comfortable, try discriminating out minus 10 through to minus five.
if the ground is actualy full of iron it may be dificult to detect on,try to find an area that is not too bad until you get the hang of the technique.

Hi larryk56,

To answer your question. When using the CONDUCTIVE audio mode, once you read negative numbers the pitch will start to increase to a higher tone. This is where you use the negative ID number to distinguish a target with a higher iron content.

When using the FERROUS audio mode, the pitch will keep decreasing to a lower tone as the negative ID number increases.

Running in AUTO or MANUAL sensitivity will not have an affect on this.

Hope this helps, Good Hunting. Q

So correct me if I am wrong!

What you are saying is ..... in the all metal conductive mode you want to ignore all the high pitch
negative numbers. Just dig the numbers that do not show as negative ?

Hi larryk56,

I believe in your case (type of hunting you desire ie. coins and jewelry) yes would be the answer to your question.

If you are hunting for relics of a high ferrous content then no would be the answer.

The statements above are the theory for optimal conditions, best case scenarios, Desirable targets usually depend on what you are specifically hunting for, and where you are hunting for it. Additionally, ground mineralization, moister content, target angle, depth, size, and most important the alinement of the planets.

Just my two cents, Good Hunting! Q
