Did The Maiden Hunt With My New Garrett Fresh Water Metal Detector, And Got Rewarded! :wiggle:

Well, it's not exactly a new machine, but a new addition to my detector arsenal. It came out in 1986, and the electronics are very similar to the Garrett Freedom 3. I was lucky, my coil sinks, as some of the coils were weighted, and some were not. It's a pretty easy machine to operate. Rings and coins give a decent signal, junk, including bottle caps give a broken signal. I did manage to get three silver coins and one silver ring. I chest mounted the electronics, which lightened up the coil/rod. It's supposed to be water proof down to 6 feet.

I hunted mostly with the AT3, but after 3 hours, the water was lacking signals. I then switched to the Infinium. The water suddenly came alive again, and more good targets went into my goody bag. After about 6-7 hours of hunting, I was getting tired & hungry, so I headed home, where I had a nice turkey supper waiting for me. Just a super day!

Below are the best finds of the day........

Sounds like a very fun day! Nice silver! You didn't happen to see the Garrett girls while you were at the beach?:garrett:

Blast from the past!:detecting:Man, I love those old machines!:garrett:That's a good one, too. Dual range discrimination like Master Hunter. I wish Garrett would still make a similar wading detector. Nice finds, bro. Congrats:beers: Happy Hunting!:)

WTG John. Looks like you had fun with your "new" detector. And dinner waiting for you when you got home...what could be better? :)

Nice going John. The AT3 is a good detector to be sure.
I know someone that uses one in the dry sand areas of a
saltwater beach and does very well with it. We wont say that
he cleans out the beach but he does thin it out quite a bit.
Best of luck with it. Nice addition to your other detectors.

Like the old 10 cent silver. Congrats !

Nice scores at the lake John, I've only found clad and various junk there this year. I've only waded about 2-3 feet deep though. The dime looks to be in dandy shape once past the tarnish mottling. I've found a couple of Fishscales this year, an 1899, quite worn and a 1901 in good shape. Continued good luck to you.

Nice haul. Where'd ya pick up the AT3?

From Me ... I sold it when I bought a nice AT4 ... but it had problems and now it is dismantled and destroyed.
Should have waited until I field tested the AT4 before selling the AT3.
However, I did get a very good trade in on a new Garrett infinium ... but it was not shipped as promised.
I canceled that one and asked about the AT4 ... too late ... they work fast at dismanteling and destroying old trade in's.
So I decided on a Sea Hunter Mark II ... well see if that one can make it here.

John, Glad to hear you are liking the AT3 ... it is a neat little machine.
Did Sue verify what I told you about it just being re-tuned and adjusted at Garrett?
They are good people and mistakes happen so I am not upset about the infinium.
A few here said the Sea Hunter was a better choice between the two.
