I could understand it if it was intentional, theyve had it in for me for 30+ years! :argue: Seems a plastic flower pot filled with peat moss doesn't make a very good ashtray..You'd think a long time smoker would know this right? It was out on the front porch, (wood) right up next to the house, (cedar).
Seems both of these elements are flammable, and so is peat moss and plastic (who woulda thought?). It was one heck of a conflagration, (pictures coming) molten plastic made it through the deck, and the siding burned through to the OSB ( 2 more minutes, and it woulda made it) The only way to put the fire out under the deck was to fire up the sawzall,(110v) as the fire was being hosed down by my brother in law, who also should be old enough to know that 110v and water are incompatible. So I was busy doing the repairs yesterday, and too dang tuckered out to go out in the weather (awful) today. I tried, but couldn't concentrate. :stretcher:

Wow, that sounds like a near disaster. Glad to hear you got it in time. Catching that in time will be your best find of the year. HH jim tn

Yeah! Then I get up this morning, and the coffee maker doesn't work! Seems some body unfamiliar with the usage of such, took it upon themselves to try to figure out where the coffee grounds go, and where the water goes. Evidently, it was not obvious, and getting these two locations confused has a catastrophic effect on the mechanisms! Theve been here since Wednesday, and just left now...I think theres a good story in here, the last two times they visited, my sister in law wound up in the emergency room for falling down the stairs, and falling off the deck! I got the siding patched up to the point you cant even tell, it is diagonal cedar lapsiding, so I only had to buy one 12' replacement board, and gently pry off the burnt ones, cut the bad ends off, and use them over underneath their original position. The deck I have to cut and router and stain 3 new floorboards, but I might make it out swinging this afternoon.

Wow Mud, you must of had my relatives over. But you couldn't of because they would still be there. :) Sorry about the fire but I am happy it wasn't the whole house. Nice fix job. Great work. Again that is why I sold my house and live in an apartment. :bouncy: I am sure that you will fill a few posts with details of the event!!
Go detecting and Happy Trails.....Z

Hey mud you know the old saying,if marriage were outlawed only outlaws would have inlaws haha glad it wasnt worse...

I'm sure your not happy. But just as sure your grateful no one was hurt..

Hey boys, I AM thankful nobody got hurt! I didn't say anything or yell and scream, just gotta take the good with the bad and make memories outta them. Yes, it was a good Thankgiving all around...nobody got hurt either physically or emotionally, and even though I didn't get to go sweeping on one of the last good days of the year, it is a funny story, that my girls will remember for a long time. The inlaws didn't step up and take the blame, so I said it was probably spontanious combustion, and they agreed, if I had pushed the issue, I would have taken the blame for not letting them smoke inside the house! (Note to self, next house, CONCRETE!)

If it were me, I would be planning a memorable trip to their house for the next holiday. Maybe a healthy coffee can full of Quik-crete down the toilet? I could go on and on .... let me know if you need any ideas !!

No, really ... glad it turned out OK !
