Differences between sov.XS & Elite

I have been using both ,I started with the elite and Iam partial to it,,but I do notice where the sov. xs seems to be a little different..is there any difference between two identical coils?? ie. 2,8 inch coinsearch coils side by side on the same machine is it ever possible for one coil to just be hotter than another? the obvious faceplate changes and additional noise cancel and fixed/variable tone switch...what are the main difference detection wise that some of you guys that have run both have noticed..thanks in advance..take care..

Electronics is a sum of errors. It is doubtful that any two parts will ever be exactly identical in every possible respect.

When you put them all together, you hope that the end result will fall between acceptable limits.

If you carefully test a dozen or a hundred "like" devices, you would come up with an "average" performing unit...... what you would normally expect for performance.

You could also find a few really "hot" ones and a few "dogs".

Just to look at coils of the same type.......

How well is it tuned for resonance and bandwidth ??
How well is phase cancellation achieved ??
How much gain does the preamp have ??
How quiet is the preamp for noise ??

Adding it all together, it would be possible to have two coils with consecutive serial numbers that are quite noticeably different in performance.

Of course, there will be some differences in how well any particular control box handles the received signal.

That should provide somewhat of an answer to part of your question.

You will get many differing opinions on coils and detectors. You never know if one was "hotter" than average, or the other was a bit "doggy", or both.

Many times they will not be tested side by side, so you don't really know if it is really a good comparison.

Like Art says, component tolerances, coil winding differences, and other variables. mean that some coils will be on the high side, some will be on the low side, but most will fall in the middle of the "bell-shaped" curve. I have two 10" Tornado coils and they both perform pretty much the same. At least I haven't noticed any difference. I don't know about other machines, but Sov owners have a whole passel of coils to choose from, depending on what and how they hunt.
Some hunters are more interested in target seperation than depth, others are looking for coverage because they hunt over large areas with only a few targets, and some hunters go slow,and look for the deepies.

Ya pays yer money and ya makes yer choice.
