digging knife

I had gotten a japanese style gardening knife but found that it was great for cutting plugs but was not strong enough to pry the plug out without bending. I decided to see if I could make a stronger one myself. I started with 1/4 x 2 hot rolled bar stock from Lowes. This is the result after several days of cutting and grinding.

We will see how well it works in the field. It would not bend with the blade in the vice.

What a great job on the knife. You may have a new side line of income.

Nice job...For those that don't have your abilities look into some of Lesche diggers as they do the job for me..

If your knife bends,(Nice work by the way,) go to a scrap yard and get you a piece of 4130 steel. Its made to be heat treated after you are done with its constuction. Heat it to a straw color, then quinch it in oil. Good luck, and God bless.
