Digging lots of iron....

JJ

Member
Just starting to get some time in on the CTX. I'm running Gone Hunting's settings posted on another forum, ferrous coin, combined. Just like in all the cool videos, I get this really solid, repeatable deep dig me tone along with what is obviously iron, both show on the screen. Unlike the cool videos, not once did that sweet solid tone turn into a coin in the hole next to iron, only iron was found. I know I have a LONG way to go and remember going through this with the explorer II until I found the proper settings. Any suggestions? Also, I REALLY, REALLY miss my inline probe. The pro-pointer doesn't hold a candle to the Sunray probe. Thanks for any suggestions,JJ

Yes you will get that iron false just like with any detector. Do you use Target Trace and Target Trace Pinpoint? They can help with the Target Trace the cursor shows a solid red circle the odds are it is a "roundish" object if the circle is lighter red with some streaks emanating from the sides ..typically a long item. Remember to check your holes I have found that I have gotten a nice tone and good cursor and dug out some iron or other lower conductor, ie. .22 shell etc. and I think to myself that that item should not have given a good tone and I have pulled out of the same hole good coins. Takes some practice and you will soon be digging the goodies.

Great advice, thank you. I have target trace/target trace pinpoint on. I obviously need to brush up and practice exactly how certain targets show up in target trace. Thanks again, JJ

Play around with some coins buried in a test garden as far as a probe I love the new whites TRX it has more depth but still no discrimination

if you get a solid iron reading on the target trace in the bottom right hand corner, and your tid is over 12.41 then it's falsing iron.

Even a quarter with a nail will show a lower target id maybe 12.37, i'm going from memory so test it yourself.

If you only get the high tone from one angle, then that'll double confirm falsing.
