Digging shovel Question

I don't normally use a long digging shovel , mostly just the hand shovel but I have a folding army shovel (the 1940's issue ) that I sometimes use in farm fields. My question is do you make your own shovel or buy one of the many production types. What do you think the best shovel out there is that digs well and doesn't weigh a lot for easy carry. I was looking at maybe a lesche shovel for this year.
What are your thoughts ?

Harbour Freight has a small shovel for less than 10$ with a short handle that works real well. The only thing I did to modify the shovel is cut a V notch at the tip for cutting roots.

31 inch Sampson with T handle.
Cuts plugs better than hand diggers and pops them up with ease.

Yup, i tried other shovels and finally got the sampson t handle shovel. It was well worth the money.

Thanks , I checked out the Sampson shovel, it looks good. I think I'll give that one a try.

Another vote for Lesche shovel with T handle.
I'm very new to MD, but this shovel just feels like it was made for one purpose. Digging up treasure

Me too, I use the Lesche T handle with one side serrated blade. It's the biggest shovel I can carry in a public place without drawing attention. You'll never need to buy another one! Tt

I did the E-tool and various altered spades...
Finally did the Lesche Relic
shovel.... halaeujia!
