Dime with missing clad layer?

yowow#1

New member
I know this is a clad dime, but it doesn't have any clad on one side. all copper. wondering if any you guys can tell me anything about it? i did a little research and coinquest says possibly worth a couple hundred bucks, says a error coin.

looks like it was tumbles with the pennies

Never tumbled, just dug and soaked in a little water and dish soap to clean the dirt off it, used a tiny bit of polish to see if that did anything and it only polished the copper i researched it a little and there are known mint error dimes that left the mint with no nickel clad on one or both sides. The picture on the right is a mint error coin with nickel clad only on the obverse side, just curious if this is mint error. i guess a coin dealer would know for sure. Thanks for looking.

Howdy yowow#1--

You did the right thing by rinsing and soaking that coin. It always saddens me when I see coins with numismatic value harshly cleaned. There are some posters that dig beautiful Barber quarters and half $'s and they look like nice XF coins as they come out of the ground, easily worth a 100 bill. Then they show them after they "clean them up" and they have reduced their value to slightly over spot melt. Kind of like finding a barnyard1953 Corvette and painting it pink and pulling the 6 out of it and putting a 350 in it so it goes faster hahah.

I have found a few zinc cents without copper plating in circulation and they are worth a few bucks. I hope that your dime turns out to be the error coin. Best of luck and ...

Why would anyone want to clean silver, a little soap & water does it. I love the sight of silver when you first brush it off.

Thanks Blind Squirrel for looking, and thank you for your kind comments. Best of luck to you and
