Hello yesterday went to the beach for the first time i did the procedure auto noise cancel ,turn on beach mode, ground balanced it etc etc...... , i started at 10:00 am found hundreds of pull tabs penny's , aluminum foi,l a condom rap jajajajaaj , then it was 5:00 pm i was tired, i decided to turn of tracking mode and ground balance it every 10 minutes , pummmmmmmmmm it was another detector the numbers were stable no false signals or jumping numbers , after 10 minutes of turning off tracking i found my first white gold ring , then in 5 minutes i found a silver ring ,in only one hour , it was getting dark , but with that said I'm never going to use tracking again its to much coincidence that my x terra 705 worked a lot better with tracking off.

I was using 18.75 dd coil elptical

Glad that you found what works for you at that site, but I usually try to refrain from saying things like "never".
The Tracking function has it's place. The beach that you went to just might not be one. And in reality, it might have been just the place to employ GB Tracking Offset.

Still, it was a learning experience, and maybe next time you'll try something different yet and have even better success. Being able to do so is one of the wonderful things about the 705.
Congrats on the ring finds!

Thanks Long Hair for your response but i really dont under stand GB Tracking Offset, and one thing when i balanced the detector the number that appear on screen was Zero, never seen that on my detector and sometimes one, what does that mean???

Beach Mode has it's own GB scale

When I did tests on the three new Coiltek coils, I did a comparison that included the stock 9" MF CC on targets in the ground in both normal Coin&Relic and Beach modes. Between the four coils tested at three different locations, the highest GB Beach number that I got was 4, and that was with the 15" HF All-Terrain. The same coil at the same location in Coin&Relic GB'd @ 28.

To better understand Offset, and to understand what you experienced at the Beach with the Tracking feature, I would direct you to re-read pages 22-24 in Randy's book.

Hi,

I use Tracking 99% of the time
Occassionally I find a site that affects my Xterra like the one that you describe and use a fixed GB like you did
A detector needs to be stable to work well and that is what you should set it up to do ...so it can find those gold rings etc

Congrats on your 1st gold ring - any chance of a photo?
happy swinging

Way to keep at it and experiment. Never got a zero on the beach for GB. Lowest was 11. Sometimes up into the 20's. Use an offset of =1 to -3. But I usually use the tracking. I turn it off from time to time especially when trying to locate an elusive signal.
I don't get to the beach much. A few times I took some extra time to try different applications on signals. Auto ,auto off, disc,AM, offset etc. Disc will disc out al, foil and gold (small pcs anyway) Good for a togle on little bits of iron. All coins except zincolns read like they should. Tracking will GB a target out sometimes after 2 passes-but togle once and it hits again.
Wish I would have done some tests on the gold ring I found. It was the 2nd to last signal I dug before leaving. I am certain that it would have read w traking on off. Note to anyone reading- my friends wedding ring rang like a bell w a solid TID of 30- on top or under the sand. The small gold I found read and sounded like all of the foil,Al and costume jewelry I found. (some foil is more scratchy sounding).
705-Beach, offset -3,AT (GB started at 20),AM, Sens 20, Auto NC.
