Dishonest Garrett Dealer

New member
I have been looking for a good used AT Gold to compliment my Etrac as a waterproof detector.....this isn't my first rodeo...with that being said, I went into a Pawn Shop /Garrett /prospecting dealer today and inquired if they had a used Gold, he said he only had a couple of new ones and then he proceeded to tell me how he took a small gold nugget, buried it 18 inches, and then buried a piece of sheet metal over the top of the nugget and it hit the nugget every time. I should have took him to task but I just shook my head and left. I feel sorry for the Newb that comes walking through the door with his hard earned $799.00 and believes what the salesman says as gospel...so to all the people who are looking into getting into this hobby, do your research, even your local dealer may try and take advantage of you.

Wow, thats a shame that a dealer would try and pull a stunt like that. I would have left too.

Yeah? Maybe he meant from the other side? You might have been able to negotiate a better price with a guy like this, magic beans or a bitcoin or somethin'

Sounds like He wasn't smart enough to figure out he was Picking up the sheet metal, not the nugget:rofl:

If he is an actual Garrett Dealer, please contact Garrett 1 800 527 4011, ask for Sue and give her your report. I know for a fact that Garrett will not tolerate that kind of BS coming from a dealer.

Of course, he could be as dumb as a bag of hammers and believe his own story......hey, whatever floats your boat bud! :pinnochio

I only get 17" with the sheet of tin test he must have a hotter AT-Gold than I have!! LOL

I agree you should call Garrett and let them know he needs some remedial study in detecting. I don't know how deep the At/Gold goes compared to the At/Pro, but I buried a small half pint jar with pennies to test my GTI-2500 and buried it with the jar lid upside down in the hole. I can't remember if it's 12 or 14 inches deep, but the 2500 finds it with the 9.5, 12 inch coils, but the At/Pro doesn't. I wanted to try the At/Pro after all the rain last week, but just didn't get around to it. I haven't tried it with the 5 X 10 DD coil on the 2500. An educated and honest dealer is a blessing to people detecting, especially those just starting out. If you hadn't had experience, you might have believed what he said and been unhappy with Garrett products. Since I don't have a dealer around home, I do all my business online with one of our vendors and he has always been upfront with me and answered my questions. Having a local dealer that is knowledgeable and detects also is great. HH.

That's nothing - I buried a nugget under a '43 Plymouth and my AT Gold sounds off like Christmas at 3 feet!! :heh:
I didn't think Garrett would like that kind of BS coming from a dealer, either. Good idea to give 'em a call.

Fongu - that doesn't sound right re: the AT Pro not hitting the jar of pennies at 12" - 14". I dig a lot of deep copper scrap wire and pipe at that depth and deeper - just wondering if your coil has an issue??

It could be, but the At Gold should be deeper than the At/Pro with the all metal. I may be wrong. When I'm in the water it finds quarters at 10-12 inches, but it's more conductive in the water. I wanted to try it after the huge rain last week, but just couldn't get to it.

Yeah? I have to run my Pro with only 3 batteries in it and sens set 3 clicks below full power, or the airplanes landing in Beijing cause falsing....
Mud

Awwww, that's nothin', Mud... every time that blasted space station passes over, I have to go down to one bar and stuff cotton in my ears! :veryangry:

shoot, I can tell how many coins a china man has in his pocket straight down on the other side of the world. That's with my sniper coil. LOL

I pointed my AT PRO at the moon and you would not believe what I found, FLASH GORDEN'S OLD ROCKET SHIP. I LOVE MY AT PRO.

Nope, but he loves to curl up in the freshly dug holes, especially on hot summer days!
