Disk resolution

I have a Mavica 85 camera. When I shoot at 620 ( thereabout) resolution the pics look the same as when I shoot at 1280 ( also thereabout ). The first one takes 10 pics to the disk, the second one takes only 5. Is there a reason why I shouldn't use the one that gives me 10 pics ? I use the camera for online pics almost exclusively. The real question you need answered is "what do the pictures look like to those that see them"?
In other words, when I send a photo over the net and someone looks at it what do they see? You can answer that by sending an e-mail to yourself and see what the two photos look like.
Most resolution issues have to do with the size of the print that can be made without any degradation of detail. New 3.3 megapixel cameras are capable of generating huge TIF files that can be blown up (printed) in poster size format 19" x 21" +/-. But if you only use the photos for the net (e-mail) then a small image file should be just fine.
Experiment a little and you probably will be very satisfied with the small file format and get many more photos on your disk.
